About Ethan

I am a well versed GM in the public space of play and have been GMing for over 15yrs of GMing with my first ever system being 4th edition and going on to learn 5e and be in it since its beta and then recently picking up the Battletech RPG system of ATOW (A Time of War) My style is a story is in every moment you want it. Taking time to be through in my research of a setting you want run or when crafting a world of my own carving lots of details and story hooks for players to explore into using the rules to help make every roll feel special and meaningful and giving players to have confidence in putting effort into their charters knowing that they can get a rewarding experience no matter how dorky life becomes or turns!!! You can also find me on Game Master Swap on twitch and youtube as well as my own channel Arcosraid to get a taste of the my type of game!!

I got started GMing...

Nearly 20 years ago now I started at 10 years old running my first game of DND and have been playing role playing games ever since

I became a GM because

I wanted to tell a story worth remembering for years to come

When I'm not running games I'm...

I am writing new plot lines or crafting up systems or art and participating in community events and even hosting some of my own related around RPG's, Mecha, and Sci-fi

How Ethan runs games

I am a person driven by story over rules, I love using the rules to set up awesome things for players to do and to feel empowered by them to do crazy and creative things but if there isn't a rule to go by. Well flying by the seat of my pants is a speciality of mine, that often players put me in the position of doing so don't feel afraid to thrust anything you are thinking or question on your mind my way .

I prep by

Carefully taking stock of my players understanding there basic goals through means like a value's, virtue's and loyalties' set of questions then applying factors based on story indented plot line and choices and having guiding rules for effects on how this plays into narrative play.

When it comes to voices

I often find myself making up goofy, serious, and relativistic characters playing the part of my NPC's and giving conversation to players who want to interact both those in character and of those who just want to state what they are doing or planning

Rules are...

Helping shape the ideas of an action and to present the challenge to overcome to make action happen in the world but also can be bend and changed for sake of the narrative and creative measures of the players

Featured Prompts

I love it when a player

Engages with the story asks question in character and seeks to be curious about the world and what is going on

I think min/maxing...

It a perfectly reasonable thing to do in a difficult game or a preferred style of play so long as the follow the initial prompt set for a given campaign and follow all approval requirements for things in a system and avoid any banned material outright if stated

I am for a vibe that's...

Beer and pretzels role play about 40% of the time 20% combat and gameplay actions 20% management and strategy and 10% high stakes moments and key choices and 10% Serious role play and social character growth or setbacks this doesn't happen ever session as such but shouldn't be too much more
