About me
Behind the scenes blog and campaign travelogues: www.actionjay.com Although I've been a lifelong geek and game enthusiast, it took my wife and our online friend group to get me into trying Dungeons and Dragons. We played a few adventures, and then I designed and ran a comedic Fight Before Christmas one shot in December 2020. From there I became the group's core DM, running a two year long genre hopping homebrew game that went beyond level 20 and got the group truly hooked across 97 sessions. Among other games I played in, I was able to DM some chapters of Radiant Citadel for the group, and continue an annual tradition of Christmas One Shots. Then in January 2023, we started Curse of Strahd, a stark contrast to the previous game's atmosphere. As of June 2024 we're nearing the end at aound 70 sessions. I also started running Adventurer's League games, self contained episodic one shots giving me plenty of practice for prepping with a quick turnaround. On SPG I'm currently running an ongoing campaign with an open world Sword Coast, incorporating elements from multiple official adventures. I've also packaged my Castle Ravenloft maps into a replayable one-shot adventure "Strahd Dies Tonight" Which I'll be running on an ongoing basis. My newest project "Forest Friends Take Off" marries an idea from my homebrew with campaign settings and adventures from Humblewood and Spelljammers. It's presented as a self-aware 80s era cartoon starring talking animals that at some point gets rebooted and sends them to space! It's silly and dumb and exactly the kind of thing you learn to expect from me.
GM Style
Vibe: Fun Voices: Attempted Rules: Negotiable I strive for a balanced mix of character roleplay and combat opportunities. A highly involved group will get their backstories paid off and woven into the story, while more casual players will be able to enjoy a fun romp without needing to take lots of notes.

Even as a group of new adventures our guide Action Jay has an evenly paced fun filled openworld adventure. Allowing players of all types to learn and have fun exploring in their own ways. Be it by items, roleplay, murder mayhem or underhanded sneaky deceptions. The danger is real the reward is fulfilling and tough our group all have different goals he has brought us together as a team.
Jay ran a oneshot for our family and he was great all-around. Patient with the ones newer to the VTT, and flexible with the ones with more experience and crazy ideas! His scene descriptions and NPC tactics were awesome. As a forever-DM, it was great to sit back and picture the scenes he setup. We highly recommend Jay and look forward to playing with him again! Too bad we can only use 3 terms to describe his skills, because he checks a lot of boxes.
I've been tabletop role-playing for over 20 years and Jay is hands down the best DM I've played with. He really listens to and cares about your ideas and making sure your characters story is told. He rides the perfect line of character development role play and murder hobo. I'm always invested, immersed in the world through music and creativity and the utter personality and amazing mind of the DM. He's inclusive, intelligent, and chill enough to let you do some pretty amazing or even stupid things for entertainment value.
