I have been playing D&D for more than 6 years as a player, and I have been a DM for about 3 or 4 of them. Unfortunately, most of my previous campaigns ended badly because my poor choice in players caused unnecessary IRL drama, but I have recently returned from a self-imposed hiatus, and I'm ready to be a DM again!

GM Style

Even though I am new to StartPlaying, I have about 3 or 4 years of being a DM. Usually, I prefer to have my sessions 60-40 in favor of combat, but depending on the player's choices, there may be more RP-focused scenarios. I am a fan of seeing big numbers, so I tend to plan my encounters for the players who like to min-max their characters, whether it be doing hundreds of damage in one turn, or never failing a persuasion check as a bard. Last but not least, I am a firm believer of “the Rule of Cool”. If it doesn't completely break the basic 5e mechanics, or if you can come up with a reasonable, in-character reason, I will usually allow it. (For example, if you are a barbarian and you leave a monster with 1 hp, I might ask you to make an intimidation roll and tell me what you say in character. If you roll well or say something cool and menacing, I might let you can finish it off via heart attack.)
