About me

I'm a long-term DM, starting with 1st Edition and running a current 5e campaign into it's third consecutive year of play. I love the moments D&D creates and the kinship and laughter it brings across all manner of divides.

GM Style

I love creating canvases that players can create their own (mis)adventures on - epic reveals and OMG moments, as well as the utterly ridiculous and hilarious. I like detail, but am happy to hand-wave over things to move a story on when needed, and like to provide memorable events, places and characters for players to build from. At the end of the day, everyone is playing to have fun, and my job is to create a platform that people can do that in a mutually acceptable way. I won't flinch at the killing of a PC in combat or where they had agency in the process - because a believable world needs consequences to feel meaningful - but would never remove a player's chance to control their own destiny...it's simply not fair or fun. I will always let players try whatever they like, though I will try to protect them from themselves whenever possible...my favourite phrase as a DM is "You can try" :-D Telling you what I don't like in games and players may be more informative as to whether I'm the sort of GM you'd enjoy - I don't like meta-gaming, power-gaming, ret-conning, limelight hogs or arguing (especially in combat). Everyone makes mistakes (even GMs), but disturbing the flow of the game to nit-pick or "correct" something doesn't help anyone's experience. In circumstances that require a decision I'll make one on the spot (even if wrong) to maintain flow, and it can be "fact checked" for later if needed.
