About me

I am a storyteller. I have been for years and in more recent years discovered D&D as an outlet for that storytelling. But that is not to say that I am a dominating narrator in my campaigns -- no. I invite the players to be equal storytellers with me in this adventure. And I encourage them to have backstories that allow me to make player hooks into the narrative, as a character who is connected to the story is more involved in the story. I know that that may seem a no-brainer, and that many DMs do the same thing; I have just been told by my players that I do it really well. So, I invite you to join me in adventures both fanciful and dark . . . even if we play within the bounds of a prewritten adventure, let's see what new paths we can discover to the journey's end!

GM Style

For my GM/DMing style, I prefer story and roleplay over combat and exploration; however, I do not neglect these other aspects of the game. I would say the ratio of roleplay to combat to exploration for me is probably about 2:1:1. I enjoy adding my characters backstories into the narrative. To make it so the players don't necessarily feel like they are just expendable fodder for the fight but involved, important cogs in the mechanics of the story. I've had players tell me that what I did with their backstory integration into the campaign shocked and floored them, but they loved it. In my games, the players drive the story, and I do my best to avoid railroading them into situations. Did the party discover a means to enter the castle of the BBEG I had not thought of previously? I let them try it out! Are they able to convince this one written-as-enemy NPC that they are in the right? Sure. The players are the ones who create the story, even if I as the DM have the building blocks of the campaign.
