About me

I started in a tavern. Having spent most of my life running pubs, breweries, and inns, I appreciate why so many adventures - in life and at the table - begin in such a place. A tavern provides the comfort of home to an endless cast of relative strangers. We can all take the stage for a moment, weaving together our myriad backstories into a shared, evolving tale before venturing back to our main quests. Five years ago, when I began my own journey into tabletop gaming, I was surprised to find how familiar it felt to run a session. Everything I had learned about teamwork, conflict resolution, improvisation, and guest service fell neatly into place as the players began to tell their stories. GMing brings out the most fulfilling aspects of hospitality: managing relationships and giving folks the tools they need to find their voices. Like StartPlaying, being a GM is all about bringing folks together: providing a space for players to build relationships, a setting for characters to grow and build off each other, and a structure to weave a tangle of narrative threads into one unique story. When we play to find out, we go beyond the discovery of what happens at the tabletop. We learn about ourselves and our relationship with the world around us. I look forward to empowering players' senses of creativity and exploration, and discovering new stories waiting to be found.

GM style

I enjoy a touch of crunch in combat, so long as the mechanics support the narrative, and can get sidetracked for hours discussing the philosophies behind those relationships .I lean heavily into collaborative storytelling. This style certainly emphasizes roleplay, but only to the extent that players are comfortable getting into character. Everyone tells stories differently, and this diversity should be celebrated; I will work with the whole party to makes sure we can share the spotlight and build off each other's strengths.
