How Josh DMs in theory runs games
Fundamentally my style revolves around remembering that D&D is ultimately just game and that my players are trusting me, not just with their time and money but to create an environment where they feel comfortable and can have fun. Roleplaying can be vulnerable, espectually with strangers on the internet. Maintaining a safe fun environment for all players will stay my top priority. In terms of game running I'm capable of both pure improv and hard crunch. My default revolves around roleplay and character lead story with dynamic and interesting combat sprinkled in. In roleplay my goal is to help facilitate improv and player lead plot with a sandbox world, colorfully voiced NPCs, and mystery box storytelling. I try to hold the reins loosely and guide the players until they feel comfortable taking charge, taking control again only when necessary or during lulls. In combat I aim to design dynamic battlefields and enemies that are catered to the characters strengths (and weaknesses). There will almost always be more to a fight than just a slog fest. Cleverness, tactics, and crunch will be rewarded, but are by no means necessary. I also have extensive experience teaching and running for new players, explaining this very complicated game in fun bite sized ways.
