About me

I'm an avid gamer and have been playing everything under the sun since I was 6 years old. I've GMed 3rd, 4th, and 5th edition D&D as well as a handful of other RPGs. I've written a few simple homebrew systems to tell stories I wanted to tell. My other big current passion is boardgaming and I host a strategy gaming channel on Youtube (@phoenicksgaming). In my professional life I'm currently a game designer but I worked in education for over a decade. Very little makes me happier in the RPG world than introducing it to new players.

GM Style

To me, the core of this game is about interacting with each other and the world around you. I'm really interested in ensuring that NPCs feel like they serve a purpose in the game world and that they often have lives outside of the player characters. In general, I'm a big fan of the player characters and am rooting for them to win, but for the winning to matter, they must face challenges. I would say that I like to run serious stories and find the (many) spaces there are to goof of in the midst of those stories. Ultimately, we are here to have fun and I like a game where my players are joking with one another but also have the capacity to realize when a moment has gravity or severity. Combat is fun and is at the core of D&D as a system, but I think that finding a great balance between roleplay and combat is essential to keep a game compelling.
