About me

Welcome! Want to play Dungeons and Dragons - or other fun tabletop roleplaying games - but don't know where to start? Need a DM? Want a safe place where you can be yourself? Around the Table Adventures is here to help! My mission is to welcome new players to tabletop roleplaying games by creating fun, accessible content and sharing rich, imaginative stories together. If you’re looking for something free, I I offer fun tips and tricks on collaborative storytelling, setting, gameplay, safety tools, and more via my newsletter! If you’re looking for something to bring to your table, I I sell beautiful Printable products, including custom modules, campaign hooks, characters, locations, puzzles, encounters, and more for your home game! These are typically for Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition, but not always - you’re sure to find something you love. If you’re looking for a table in the first place, I offer bookable games from action-packed single sessions to expansive custom arcs. All games are Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition in a homebrew world. Everything you need to play is included, including blank character sheets, rules cheat sheets, and dice! Around the Table Adventures is a project by Max Felix (they/them). I am a storyteller, tabletop roleplayer, and DM for hire from Minneapolis, Minnesota (living on Wahpekute and Očhéthi Šakówiŋ land). I am trans, nonbinary, queer, and committed to fat liberation, disability justice, Black Lives Matter, and a seat at the table for all. https://linktr.ee/aroundthetableadventures

GM Style

My values are first and foremost for me. I believe tabletop roleplaying games can be a powerful storytelling experience - on par with popular films, books, theatre, and all moving art - but only if players can show up as their whole selves authentically, learn game content easily, and tell their stories without fear. If we love the art of tabletop storytelling, we will all do our part to ensure players can be themselves, find accessible ways to play, and join the story! I favor collaborative storytelling, rich narrative, and comedy over crunchy rules or tactical combat. While I recognize the value of the TTRPG sourcebook to ensure balance and fairness, I tend to regard the sourcebook as supportive of the game around the table, not the game itself. I love worldbuilding and map-making; I love lore and enjoy making beautiful maps on Inkarnate! While I do bring a lot of prep, I'm a comfortable improviser and usually come up with fan-favorite NPCs off the dome. Continually experiencing art and storytelling from a wide variety of genres has been the number one source for my own storytelling as a DM - not only for raw learning and inspiration, but also for genuine technical skill development. I’m not only referring to tabletop roleplaying games, although actual play/real play streaming and podcast shows like Critical Role, The Adventure Zone, Dimension 20, Into the Mother Lands, and Neoscum (among others) have been very influential for me. I also learn, grow, and improve via the storytelling crafts of movies, television, books, video games and board games, and even music. Finally, I also believe resentment comes from unmet expectations. Advance communication is the key to relaxation and fun. Players deserve a chance to know and meet my expectations, and I deserve the opportunity to learn and adjust to players' expectations as well.
