GM Style

I've been playing role playing games since the early 1980s - meaning those scenes in Stranger Things? I was there, and it was exactly like that. That puts me at the venerable score of 4 decades of playing games, and here's what I know about how I like my games: 1) Combat and dice rolling is a fine spice, not too much not too little. 2) Discovery and mysteries and exploration are my focus as a Game Master. 3) Role-playing and theatrics and so forth are my bread and butter - the consequence of during my formative years being packed off to grandmas every summer and being infused with all her soap operas. 4) I like some politics, conspiracies, dark secrets, etc. 5) I still get some rules wrong, and I prefer to fake it in the moment and look it up and do it correctly next time. 6) I'm a low fantasy kinda guy - because I want your magic swords and spidery incantations to be unique in our world. 7) Session Zero - getting your preferences, figuring out what you're after, is a must. It's our game, not my game. 8) I have a strong no jerks preference - Gaming is a team sport. So that means no PvP, or PvP - instigating, please. 9) Best for last - I enjoy playing games with new people. They have what TZ Suzuki called 'Beginners Mind' - because they don't know the rules, they're willing to try new things and often that results in the story going in really interesting places.
