About the adventure

"The Stolen Compass: A Theran Odyssey" is a D&D 5e adventure running from level 3 to 8 and possibly beyond, depending on player preference. Taking inspiration from the Homeric Odyssey, you will be playing sailors, merchants, and explorers who are thrust into the role of becoming monster-slaying heroes and legends by the chaotic and legendary Dakra Isles, the nigh-unchartable archipelago of isles to the southwest of the Siren Sea. By the threads of fate or by chance, these heroes will make a mark on the world that will not soon be forgotten. Immerse yourself in the world of Theros, known for its role in both Magic the Gathering and the Mythic Odysseys of Theros sourcebook, and forge your own legends as monster-slaying heroes, great explorers, and even champions or rivals to the ever-watching and fickle gods of Theros. Theros is a world of living legends: of gods, monsters, and men in constant contact. It is a world where omens are common, prophesied heroes quest for the favor of their patron gods, and dreams alone can create powerful beings that can rival the children of gods. But for all the wild beauty that exists within the world of Theros, there is no place with greater adventure, chaos, and danger than the Dakra Isles- the ever-shifting archipelago that has defied all attempts to be fully mapped and cataloged. In these Isles, destinies are met and lives can be forever changed- and there are few places a man could get richer than within those chaotic wine-dark seas. The game will be held over the Roll20 VTT, using Discord for voice chat, out-of-game rolls, and communication. Session 0 will be free, and I intend to run this weekly for the next few months and beyond. Players of all skill levels are welcomed, and all can expect to learn something new from this campaign, which will be using adjusted nautical rules from Ghosts of Saltmarsh as well as the setting-specific piety and supernatural gift systems of the Mythic Odysseys of Theros, granting your player characters the abilities of godly champions, oracles, and legendary heroes.

How to prepare

Players need to have a discord account to take part in a voice call, as well as a Roll20 account to view maps and manage character sheets. As such, players must have a working mic and the willingness to speak on call.

What I provide

I have a Roll20 Plus account, and will be providing custom maps through the platform. Tokens will be made through the tokenstamp application, and I will be available to help anyone with the creation of their character sheet using Roll20. I will be using character voices for NPCs (though I am not a voice actor), and you are encouraged to try the same for your PCs. Ambient and Combat music will be prepared for the session through discord.

Gameplay details

X, N, O's will be done digitally, through the Roll20 system.

How will character creation work

Character creation will be done prior to the first session, with prior communication with the whole party on a discord server I will invite players to. The characters will be created on Roll20, though I can help players with adding character sheets made on platforms like DnDBeyond to Roll20 if they are unable to do so by themselves. The starting level of the adventure is level 3, and stats will be rolled in a discord server of my creation. There, players will roll for their stats three times, and pick one of the results for their character's starting stats. Homebrew will be allowed (upon review and approval), and so will most content from the PHB (2014), XGE, VGM, MTF, TCE, FTD, and Mythic Odysseys of Theros.
