About the adventure

Danger lurks just beneath the surface in and around the city of Elturel and it will take much more than your average heroes to get to the bottom of it and restore peace to the lands. With a focus on exploration, adventure, and political intrigue, this campaign uses Elturel as the starting point and base, but expands outward into the rest of the world. Using the 5th edition rules, this campaign takes place in 1368 DR in a version of the Forgotten Realms where the world's future is not certain, despite what you may have read. As a GM, I like running combat-heavy games, but that is interspersed with a good amount of roleplaying. Striking a balance that suits the players preferences is key, and I can be flexible. I make use of maps and tactical combat as opposed to "theater of the mind." I alternate between adventures I have designed myself and ones pulled from other sources, such as classic Dungeon Magazine adventures that I've converted to 5E and third party material. The key is to keep the story moving forward and not get too bogged down in a single location. My game is open to absolutely anyone who wants to play provided that all players understand that I run an LGBTQ+ safe game.

How to prepare

Webcam and mic are essential. I love having players of all different skill levels, so a deep familiarity with the rules is not necessary. We'll get people who are learning up to speed as we go. You will need a Roll20 account. Character sheets are on Roll20. You can make a physical sheet if you want, but Roll20 is where they will "live" for the campaign. Dice are unnecessary as the Roll20 platform has die rolling included. You can create a character or you can take one of the pregens that I will have ready at game time.

What I provide

I will provide some visual aids and once the party is established, I'll generate some character portraits. I will also be running the game on two screens. One will be Roll20 and the other will be Streamyard, which happens to double as an amazing group conferencing platform. Streamyard does not require you to have a separate account.

Gameplay details

I like to run a game that is high on adventure and low on topics that make a lot of people uncomfortable. In other words, little to no sexual content, personal violations, and other things that are likely to trigger real-world trauma. Players who book will be sent a link to my lines and veils document, as well as Monte Cook's safety checklist. I do not require that you turn it in, but if you do, your boundaries will be respected, provided that they do not conflict with the core campaign content. If they do, we can have a conversation ahead of time about whether you feel safe continuing. To be completely honest, I've never had an issue with this in the past. If you are interested in checking out my GMing style, I have streamed a Fallout RPG game for over a year now which currently runs on Cybernation Uncensored. You can find all of our sessions on YouTube by doing search for "Fallout Pacific Northwest." I do run more of a theater of the mind game with Fallout where D&D tends to be more tactical.

How will character creation work

Bring an 8th level character or I will provide pre-generated ones. Characters should be created with point buy, not rolled, for balance purposes. I prefer to run a core rules only game. If you want to use anything outside of the core rules, please check with me before adding it to your character. All core playable species allowed except Dragonborn, as they did not exist in Faerun prior to the Spellplague, and in the version of the Forgotten Realms I run, the Spellplague would be in the future, but it has been de-canonized.
