About the adventure

Welcome to the world of Pokemon! Or well, the world of Pokemon through the lens of the world's most-known TTRPG. As noted in the title, these tales will be in/or at least start within the Johto region, but with a bit of a twist. This is a version of the Johto region after Ash's journey through it in the anime and set 5 to 10 years after the events of Heart Gold/Soul Silver. Things have changed. Some towns have grown, others have gained new gym leaders, and some Pokemon have been introduced to the region or have migrated and have adapted as a result. But it's still the Johto region most of us know at its core - a place steeped in history and primed for adventure that's waiting for new trainers to experience and discover what it has to offer. -- Hiya folks! My name is Stella Kosmistr, VTuber, DM, D&D, and Pokemon Addict, and I'm so excited to bring this concept to you all. As you can tell, this is set up as a one-shot, as a means to get folks introduced to the world through the lens of a TTRPG and the systems used to facilitate it. Each group will be starting as level 1 Pokemon trainers with their brand new starters (SR 1/2 or less) in New Bark Town and given free reign over what direction they go, as there is adventure around every corner, prepped and ready to go, and leveling up to 2-3 by the end of each adventure. These could very well grow into campaigns if time permits! They would be short, show-season style campaigns, as I plan on running a sister campaign in the same style to these one-shots over on my Twitch channel. With permission, your characters could show up in the main campaign as well.

Gameplay details

Things to know about me as a DM and my games, especially in the case of this being a Pokémon-themed game: + Rule of Cool is my bread and butter. I like making my players feel cool and rewarding neat ideas they might have. +Players and their characters come first in my games, so backstories are encouraged, as it means we can personalize the adventure and stories together in each group. However, collaborating on improv and emergent storytelling is fun too! + I make use of the X card, as well as the Monte Cook's RPG Consent Checklist. + I also have a number of homebrew rules. Granted, most of them are not applicable to Pokemon D&D. Homebrew Rules: + Potions are a bonus action. Feeding them to someone else is an action. + Flanking is in play. If you and a party member are on either side of an opponent, you will gain advantage, but keep in mind enemies can gain this benefit too. + For Pokemon D&D, I have Shiny Rate Rules and Variant Type roll tables. + Combat Insight: using your insight check, you can learn a bit about your opponents. + Cooking Mechanics. + Fishing Mechanics. + On initiative rolls of 20 or a 1, the DM or player has advantage or disadvantage on their first action. + You can crit ability checks. + During hard/important battles: if you score a critical hit and know enough about your opponent, you will trigger a Moment of Fate. A clash of will and power which could prove crucial in turning the tide of a battle. This could cripple an opponent or seal one of their abilities, but your opponent can do the same to you. This is a three-stage d100 roll-off, and we then describe the result of the clash afterward. This will really encourage some truly anime moments. + For normal battles, we have Critical Moments: when in combat, if a player scores a natural 20 after learning enough about their opponent, they will trigger a Critical Chance. This will prompt them to roll a d100, and depending on the result, will determine what tier of effects and extra damage they'll be able to impose.
