About the adventure

Learn to play D&D 5th edition while embarking on a fun, self contained adventure! The annual harvest festival is normally a time for celebration, but when an important local artifact is stolen by goblins, a group of fresh adventurers is called upon to recover it before disaster falls upon the land. This 1st level One-Shot is designed to teach new players how to play D&D 5e, covering the basics such as roleplay, exploration, and combat while engaging the players in a welcoming and interactive story. The GM will provide a selection of completed 1st level characters to choose from to enable the players to focus on gameplay and mechanics rather than the complicated statistics of character creation. Players will gain a functional knowledge of 5th edition gameplay, and can hone their roleplay skills for future adventures.

How to prepare

Players will need access to the Discord app that is available for free download on most phones/PCs and will need to join the Discord group prior to the start of the session (a link will be provided in the welcome message.) While on the call, headphones may be helpful and players can use built in microphones on most phones/PCs; if you have a problem with your standard mic, please account for this ahead of time. No dice required! We will be using a simple command on Discord to roll and results will be seen by the group. Players should read over the safety tools in my welcome letter prior to joining the call.

What I provide

I will teach the basics of the system before the game begins and answer questions as the game progresses. I will bring the adventure, guide the story, host the call, and address safety concerns as needed.

Gameplay details

Players can expect to learn a widely used gaming system, meet wacky NPCs, silly voices, and plenty of opportunity for goofy RP. We will be using Theater of the Mind for this game, and will be on audio only using Discord. Dice will be rolled using a built in program, and rolls will be viewable by the group. This adventure is intended to be a fun, goofy, inclusive safe space where players can adventure, have fun, and learn to play Dungeons and Dragons 5e. I will be including my table safety rules and guidelines in my welcome message, but in general Lines and Veils will be established before the game begins, and X, N, O cards will be used during the game via direct private messaging between player and GM. Before the game begins we will do introductions (up to player comfort level), we will go over the basics of game rules and rolling, assign/check characters, and review safety rules in more detail. There will be time set aside before the game clock starts for this setup. There will also be time set aside after the session (optional) for any aftercare, comments, and discussions of future sessions.
