About the adventure

In the great city of Waterdeep, a war is waging between the devious Xanathar Guild and the fearsome Zhentarim mercenary faction and has begun to flood through the city streets as the hunt for the hidden vault of Gold Dragons begins. Other dastardly masterminds also seek the famed treasure for their own sinister purposes and will stop at nothing to succeed. Meanwhile, a powerful spell known as the "Ahghairon’s Dragonward" encircles the whole city preventing any dragons or Dragon-kin such as the Dragonborn from entering. The Dragonstaff of Ahghairon, the powerful artifact casting the dragonward over waterdeep is guarded by a fearsome Gold Dragon named Aurinax who stands guard over a even greater secret in the bowels of the city. Your party is given a quest by Volothamp Geddarm, the writer of the acclaimed book "Volo's Guide to Monsters" to find his lost friend Floon Blagmaar, who has likely been kidnapped by an unknown group. This search eventually lures and throws the party into the escalating war of the two warring factions and the hunt for the famous Vault of Golden Dragons. The adventurers must decide who they will trust and which enemies they must thwart before they bring the great city to its knees. Who is the true threat in the midst of it all? Could even the great Xanathar, Zhentarim, or even the adventurers themselves become pawns in a Mastermind's dangerous game? You'll find out in my campaign for Waterdeep: Dragon Heist!

How to prepare

We will utilize voice chat on Discord or in-game chat features during and outside of sessions. Prior to beginning, a fundamental knowledge of D&D rules and concepts is expected, although any inquiries can be addressed during session 0.

What I provide

Cheating is prevented by using Roll20 digital dice instead of physical dice. Physical content will be provided to those who require it.

Gameplay details

The content outlined above pertains to the selected module. Session 0 will serve as an introduction and preparation, leading directly into gameplay. Various tools such as X, N, and O cards, breaks, open-door policy, will be made available to ensure the comfort and safety of all participants. I will provide a brief overview of these tools at the beginning of our initial meeting. I encourage you to share any feedback or ideas with me or the group to enhance the sessions and make them more enjoyable and engaging. If any individual is experiencing difficulties either within the game or in their personal life, especially if they are feeling depressed, anxious, low, suicidal, or being bullied, I request that they inform me immediately. Having gone through similar experiences, I am always willing to lend an empathetic ear and offer support. If comfortable, I am even willing to pray with and for individuals, entreating God to provide peace and comfort. For those who may not be at ease with vocalized prayers, I can offer silent prayers instead. X, N, and O cards can be shared with me via direct messages or posted in our game chat with the group's consent. Once I receive notification, I will inform the group that a card has been utilized, and if necessary, we will skip over the scene. Additionally, we will take a 10-15 minute break for the player to gather themselves, and for others, including myself, to provide words of encouragement. If the situation becomes overwhelming for the individual, I may suggest ending the session early to ensure everyone's well-being and maintain a positive and enjoyable gaming experience. During downtime in our sessions, players are welcome to engage in activities such as character training, gaining proficiency, expertise, feats, gathering information for side quests, or any other activities that may benefit the group or campaign. It is advisable to consult with me, either verbally or through private messages on Discord, beforehand to determine the feasibility of engaging in such activities within the session or to schedule them for a more appropriate time for your character. Lastly, it is important to note that due to my ADHD and higher-functioning trait, I may process information exceptionally fast and unintentionally speak too rapidly or excessively during our sessions. This may cause irritation or frustration. To address this concern, I have implemented a unique feature in my games - F Cards or Z Cards. F Cards, or Focus Cards, can be utilized if I veer off-topic or discuss irrelevant details. If this occurs, simply say "Andrew, F Card," and I will take a moment to reset and refocus. Similarly, Z Cards can be employed if I momentarily go silent or lose track of in-game events. If this happens, please say "Z Card," and I will promptly realign our gameplay. Should you have any inquiries, please reach out to me on Discord or StartPlaying. Discord is the preferred communication platform.
