About the adventure

Set in the world of Exandria from the D&D actual play show Critical Role, Call of the Netherdeep takes players from the gloaming wastes of Xhorhas to the glittering oasis city of Ank'Harel in a race against a party of rival adventurers to free a long-imprisoned demigod from his eldritch prison. This is a campaign with a heavy emphasis on roleplay that will take the party from levels 3 to 13. Though there's plenty of potential combat encounters and dungeons to crawl through, the rival system and rich world of Exandria most heavily reward players who are invested in acting out scenes and developing their character's relationship to their fellow party members and the many NPCs they'll meet along their journey. Though previous knowledge of the campaign setting isn't necessary, and knowledge of Critical Role itself even less so, those who are intimately familiar with Exandria and the adventures of Vox Machina, the Mighty Nein and Bell's Hells will surely get an extra thrill out of exploring a familiar setting in a brand new adventure.

Gameplay details

In session zero and during character creation we'll discuss what is and is not acceptable for each player and how I can be sure that the game's content is accommodating to everyone's needs. This campaign's contents are mostly somewhat tame, but do include plenty of violence and some small amounts of gore.

How will character creation work

Characters will begin at level 3, though those who join later in the campaign will begin at whatever level the party has reached at that time. I personally believe that D&D, even in short form quests, does not work without a well thought-out backstory and character concept. As such, I typically like to have an individual character creation session with each player before the campaign begins to hash out all the sweet little details. Character creation will be based on whatever format you're most comfortable with! Pen and paper is great, D&D Beyond works just fine or write it out in binary code for all I care! It should be noted that certain homebrew material I make available to all players is not usable on D&D Beyond and would thus require a pen and paper character sheet or something of the like to be kept track of.
