About the adventure

You are at the Last Redoubt – the last chance for lawbreakers and outcasts. You’ve formed a bit of a friend group, and have worked your way up whatever ladder you’re supposed to be on to get you back into the good grace’s of the Republic. Redoubt Day is fast approaching, a year since you've arrived, and you’re expected to find a sponsor and venture out Beyond the Last Redoubt. Do you want to get back to your former home in the Republic as quickly as possible, taking on risky and dangerous missions to get back what you once had? Or you may have no desire to return to the Republic. Will you take up the mantle of the Gods of Order, assisting and protecting the lands just outside the Redoubt? Or will you seek to serve one of the outposts, doing what is necessary to maintain relations with the countries beyond, foes and friends? Will you be approached to join a secret organization, one only whispered about, serving no master except the good of the realm, who are thought to harbor the secrets to special magics, and possess ancient objects of immense power? What sort of friends and foes await you . . . What secrets from your past will follow you . . . What mysteries are waiting to be uncovered . . . Join me in this cooperative storytelling adventure and find out what awaits . . . Beyond the Last Redoubt? You should expect: -A character driven adventure -Meaningful role play with real impact and lasting consequences -Interesting and challenging encounters -Opportunities for creative problem-solving -Memorable NPCs -An enjoyable time through collaborative storytelling With this campaign, I strive to bring a true sandbox experience - a living, breathing world where player characters have almost complete agency to steer the adventure any way they’d like.

Gameplay details

Encounters matter; Roleplay is emphasized: There will be a wide variety of encounter types, and many different ways of dealing with each encounter. There will certainly be combat, but you should build your character with more than combat in mind. I expect there will be a sizable amount of role play between party members and NPCs. Cooperative storytelling is at the heart of my campaigns, so be sure to make a character that is both fun to play and play with. We're all here to have a good and safe time: Bad D&D is worse than no D&D, and one way to dissuade bad D&D is to have a spirit of cooperation and fun. My goal is to have a great time telling a great story together, and looking forward to continuing that story. We should always strive to be authentic while role playing, but never at the expense of another player. If you are a jerk, a gatekeeper, a bigot, a cheater, overly competitive, an exploit user, spotlight hog, or bad sport, this is not the table for you. No PvP. No Evil Characters. Be a team player. Problematic play of any kind is not tolerated. Protect each other's fun. The in-game Safety System is TTRPG Safety Toolkit Extension by mattekure on FGU, which employs anonymous X, N, and O cards. This campaign does not contain explicit sexuality, sexual assault, systemic racism, homophobia, or transphobia. I try to use RAW (rules as written), but I'm a real mark for my players, and all is in service to the story. So, I'm very open to bending and breaking and reforming rules to help you and your character flourish. In this vein, I love to make magic items and the like, so you should expect customized homebrew magic items, abilities, and spells, perhaps some with the power to evolve and grow. Do not hesitate to pitch ideas to me about your character and where you see them going. Ancestral weapon your jam? Let me know. Wish your fighter had at least some access to magic? Bet we can fix that, and I'm certain we can come up with some very cool way of making it happen. Standard-ish Homebrew rules that I like to use, but I can always be persuaded one way or the other: -Action for Potion = Max heal -Bonus Action for Potion = Roll for Heal -Any player can cast a scroll with an Arcana check -Healing Surge for all PCs Zero tolerance policy for harassment or discrimination based on race, creed, color, gender, sexual orientation, etc. DM reserves the right to remove a player immediately if violating any of these rules.

How will character creation work

Though you are allowed to roll just about any character, I would suggest giving your character some character. Don't look to be or become invincible and never-failing, but look for a class, race, and background that will allow you and your character to grow. Above all else, try to find a character that will be fun to play and fun to play with. If you are new to DnD and want to pick a pre-generated character, go for it! I have Pregens available in Fantasy Grounds, and I am happy to help you find the right one. However, if you want something a little more personalized, but aren't sure where to start, I'll be happy to help you out in the process and guide you to helpful resources. Or perhaps you already know what you want or how to get started. We will be using Point Buy or Standard Array for stats; no rolling. You can create your character using nearly anything from: The Players Handbook, Xanathar’s Guide to Everything, Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything, Mordenkainen Presents Monsters of the Multiverse, and Fitzban's Treasury of Dragons. If you want to do something outside of those parameters, let me know and we can discuss.
