About me

(he/him) LGBTQ+ friendly Eons ago the call to DM came to me through some friends who wanted to play D&D 5e but had no one to DM for them. Though we were states apart I was determined to set up a worthy adventure. Fast forward to today - I am still running that campaign, and two others (and loving it!). My nerd heart first blossomed in video games (with good ol’ Warcraft) so they are usually my go to for inspiration but I try to find inspiration in everything. And although my 5e skills are great, I have a lot to learn about other systems out there. But I believe I can GM your world!

GM Style

I enjoy the role of the Game Master because I am first and foremost a storycrafter. I imagine TTRPGs as an opportunity for cooperative storytelling and love fostering that creative energy and teamwork spirit in my games. I want my players to feel like they are a part of a living, breathing world. Though immersion is harder online, I do my best at voices, creating soundtracks, and unique encounters to fit the theme of whatever campaign we happen to find ourselves in. Generally speaking, I tailor my games to fit the goals of my players. You want an epic saving-the-world-saga? You got it. You want a loot n' grab dungeon crawler? Message received. You want a Monty Python quest full of goofy NPCs and wacky enemies? 10-4. Whatever journey you’re looking for, let’s get started!

Charlie is really great at being flexible and friendly. We have a mixed group of experiences, and Charlie was able to handle it all. He asked what we expected, and adjusted accordingly. We threw a lot of curveballs and Charlie kept knocking them out of the park. We were all new to Burn Bryte, and were able to come up with scenarios that made sense in game, and made for some satisfying moments. As a group, we have had several entertaining stories to tell, and a grand time overall. Highly rated! Addendum: A few years later and he's still amazing. We've played a variety of games, all fun! We've done Burn Bryte, D&D 5e, Cairn, and lately The new Avatar The LAst AIrbender Roleplaying game! Charlie continues to impress after years of working with him, weaving wonderful stories, and helping us make wonder character stories. We have a mix of experienced and new players, and Charlie handles it all well. Also is patient when we go typical character shenanigans. I have experience with a wide variety of DMs and Charlie is easily one of the best

Charlie truly values the story-telling aspects of his games, and embraces the creativity that his players bring to the table. Both good and bad rolls end up leading to great story moments, so even if the dice aren't in your favor one night, you'll still have a blast with your friends and your quest!

Charlie is a amazing Keeper!! Our gang had so much fun for our 11th month reunion tour, and it was just like old times. The world that he creates is so much fun and very well thought out. Charlie’s story weaves details of our individual characters mindfully, and allows each person room to shine and grow. He is very encouraging for us to explore and be creative, and rolls with all the punches that we throw with our characters. I always have so much fun whenever we play, and am looking forward to our next session. Don’t hesitate to try a game with Charlie, whether or not you’ve played MoTW before!

I came into this session never having played Monster of the Week (MotW) before and Charlie coached me through the mechanics (of which there weren't very many!) and the story in such a way that I felt like I was just helping narrate a movie script. MotW seems to be a great system for those of us who enjoy role-playing games without getting bogged down by "The Rules As Written." Very immersive and, after the initial "warm up" period, very easy to just talk it out and play into it. I really enjoyed this, and look forward to getting to serve the Brink Bureau again!

What a game! This was my first time using StartPlaying, and my first time playing MotW as a system. Charlie made it super easy to understand, we had a great team of hunters to play together with, and he even let us run a little over to make sure the adventure didnt feel rushed at the end which we all super appreciated. thoroughly recommend!
