About the adventure
-- Pathfinder Academy & The Seasons -- Too many campaigns rush beginners through complex rules and virtual tabletop interfaces while forgetting the story. This academy is different. It is a 3-part, story driven introductory program designed for absolute newcomers to both Pathfinder 2e and Foundry VTT to learn the rules and experience a good story. Each season below is enhanced by me to provide a great story, a lore driven introduction to Golarion and a deeper rules introduction. Also, each season is self-contained and is booked separately. You only commit to one season at a time! Season 1 (This Campaign): Crypt of the Everflame – Master the core UI of Foundry and the basic 3-action economy of PF2e in this Pathfinder classic. Season 2 (Booked Separately): Menace Under Otari – Expand into tactical teamwork and familiarize yourself with a new class. Season 3 (Booked Separately): Secrets of the Unlit Star – Put your skills to the test in a faster, more fluidly played adventure exploring a derelict temple. For a better learning experience: 4-player limitation: To be able to proceed at a relaxed pace with max attention for your rules and software questions, this table is strictly capped at four players. Duration (Season 1): 5 to 10 Sessions (depending on our learning pace). We will not rush. We take exactly the time the group needs to feel confident and comfortable with the system and tools. The Multi-Class Challenge: To help you truly understand the system, players will choose a completely new character class at the start of each season! Already know Foundry but want to learn Pathfinder? You are more than welcome to join! Just keep in mind that our sessions are tailored to a patient, step-by-step teaching pace. No one gets left behind. -- Season 1: The Current Campaign -- A Rite of Passage (The Story) Every few harvests, the town of Kassen sends their youth out to the founder's crypt to fetch the eternal flame. It’s supposed to be a simple trial to prove you're ready to pull your own weight in the world. When you arrive, real blood stains the stone floors ... Old-School Fantasy This adventure mixes heroic fantasy with bare-knuckle survival, adapting the spirit of 1980s and '90s dungeon crawls for a modern audience. Expect a tone that shifts from warm fellowship to tense action. You will feel like true fantasy underdogs — untried village youths who must quickly learn to work as a team and step up to become heroes. Where Pathfinder Began (Retrofitted for PF2e) Experience the legendary 2009 adventure that launched the first edition of Pathfinder, fully converted for Pathfinder 2e. It diverges from the typical "tavern start" by giving your party shared roots. You all grew up together in the same small town, giving your characters immediate bonds to fall back on.

About me
I started playing TTRPGs at the age of 12, right after the release of the famous D&D "Red Box." "The Dark Eye" (Das Schwarze Auge) was my first game simply because it was available in German. I have played and GMed throughout my youth, university, and career ever since. Due to the lack of a commercial RPG infrastructure in Germany back then, I even hitchhiked to England for the weekend just to browse London game stores for the newest, hottest releases—that is how much I loved this hobby. Throughout my life, I have journeyed with many different groups through the worlds of Middle-earth (MERP, Rolemaster), Aventuria (The Dark Eye), the cybernetic future (Cyberpunk 2020, Shadowrun), The Old World (Warhammer Fantasy RPG), and various custom settings using GURPS. I have introduced many new players to the hobby, and in recent years, I discovered Pathfinder 2e with my kids—using it to sneakily teach them about plotting, pacing, character development, and even project management! With a background in multimedia, my transition to Virtual Tabletops (VTTs) was seamless. I am incredibly excited to meet you all at my table and immerse ourselves in new worlds. Be ready to be challenged, solve mysteries, face ghastly villains, survive tough tactical fights, and roleplay with a vibrant cast of characters.

Creating your character
We will create a draft version of your character prior to session 0 using Pathbuilder (https://pathbuilder2e.com/) and will discuss and run ideas about your character concept in a private chat on Discord. The goal is to have a good and fleshed out idea of your character's background, story and build prior to meeting in session 0. I will create your sheets in Foundry based on your Pathbuilder links. If you do not know Pathbuilder and or are new to Pf2e, do not fret. Contact me and I will help you get started. It is an easy and pretty straightforward and, most importantly, free tool to build a character for Pathfinder 2e, that can be intuitively fiddled with even by new players. During session 0 we will fine-tune the characters so that they work well together. Last touches to stats and background will be finalized between sessions 0 and 1 in private discord chats. Post your character art in Discord so that I can upload it into Foundry and create a token for you. Feel free to browse the token art library in our Foundry game (I own most of Paizo's Foundry token modules) for character art anytime prior to session one if you prefer. If you'd rather use a pregen, just contact me ahead of Session 0. We can discuss your preferred playstyle, and I will suggest a few great options for you. If you are completely new to the world of Golarion and would like to inform yourself prior to Session 0, let me know, and I can provide you a few links to prepare. I actually encourage you to do so. Albeit I introduce Golarion and the region of the adventure during Session 0, I will not be able to provide an in-depth history and lore as that would go beyond the scope of Session 0. We will not use any of the optional character creation rules (free archetypes, automatic rune progression, ancestry paragon, etc.) in order to be able to concentrate on learning the system.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
We will use Discord to meet and interact and I will host the game on Forge. You will need Discord and Forge accounts (https://forge-vtt.com/) and a working microphone to participate in this game. Once you have a Forge account (it is free for players) you will be able to be invited to the game world and join via an invitation link that I will provide. The same holds for Discord. A server invite will be shared the moment you join the campaign on Start Playing Games. Pathbuilder (https://pathbuilder2e.com/) is not absolutely necessary, but it is a very convenient way of sharing character build information. Conatct me on Discord in case you prefer other ways to build your character and share that info.
What Frank brings to the table
Narrative and Characters I aim to drive immersion through vivid characters and creatures that have their own agendas, which might align, run parallel or be opposed to your aims. This creates a natural tension that shapes the story beyond the scripted adventure and a unique story emerges. The goal is to surprise ourselves with interesting twists to the plot framed by the module. To deepen your immersion, I offer to help you create a tailored background story that is embedded into the region. I will gladly discuss this prior to session zero, and we will weave you into the regional lore together. Please take note that the hook for this adventure is a coming-of-age story, so that most characters will be on the younger side. Exceptions are possible if they remain exceptions and are fitted with an appropriate background story. Mechanics Even though this is predominantly a dungeon crawl, I have adapted the module so that the PF2e rules engines that guide social encounters, exploration, and combat encounters are all important to the plot. There will be possibilities for chases, social encounters with victory points, puzzles to solve, and even a little mystery to investigate, depending on your choices and preferences in how you want to go about the adventure. Combat will be highly tactical, but tailored to the dominant experience level of the players. For a party of mostly new players I offer to step out onto a metagame level to discuss tactics and possibilities, if wished. Atmosphere Sound, music and soundscapes are used as narrative tools that enhance your sensory experience and are tailored to the unfolding story and atmosphere. Pacing I try to resolve downtime and shopping activities between sessions, but I do not expect to run much downtime or shopping activities in this campaign. Most of the action will be resolved within 4 days (in-game). Character progression will be handled by milestones. Expect to be level 2 or 3 by the end of this module. A note on Session 0: Our first session will be a full, paid Session 0. Together, we will finish crafting your character, seamlessly integrate your unique backstories, and do a complete hands-on tutorial of the Foundry VTT interface by jumping straight into a fun arena fight. By the end of this session, you will be 100% ready and confident to start the real adventure!

Please be aware of the content warning tags. All these topics are likely to occur, and they will not be hidden behind veils by default. If you wish to join the campaign, but have an issue with one of the topics, please let me know, and we can see if it is possible to veil or hard line it or find another workaround. As a general rule torture, rape, ableism and homophobia will be hard-lined for this campaign as they contribute nothing to the story. Please be aware that other topics that make you uncomfortable might appear but are not listed here. You can use the X card and N cards the moment you feel things are not moving in the right direction. I am not a stickler for how this is communicated, but a series of Ns or Xs in Foundry chat usually works best. We will discuss any lines and veils in addition to the four above during session 0. I will hang around in discord chat after the adventuring concluded and the session is wrapped up. We can chat about anything you want. If you would like to keep your concern private, you can send a direct message in discord or a whisper in Foundry chat. Make sure that I see the message, in case I do not react.
