About the adventure
KULT: Divinity Lost is a new edition of KULT using the acclaimed Powered by the Apocalypse (PBTA) ruleset. It is a game of gnostic horror, where the world that we know is an illusion created by malevolent entities to trap humanity and contain our divine potential. Think The Matrix but without the science fiction trappings, with elements from the works of Clive Barker or Neil Gaiman. KULT: Divinity Lost is a hard R game with explicit violence and sexual content throughout so it should be emphasized that this is intended for adults only. For that reason also, safety tools will be rigorously employed to ensure a fun scary experience rather than a bad one. This is a new system to me as a GM as well so don't feel like you need to have a lot of experience with the game, though it's absolutely welcome if you do. I'll provide rules and check in which each player before the game and well also schedule an optional session zero to help.

Meet the Game Master
Less than a year on StartPlaying
About me
I'm a substitute teacher and amateur game designer and gamemaster. I've been playing tabletop RPGs since high school, starting with Dungeons & Dragons 3rd edition before learning the ropes of other games. I have extensive experience playing and running D&D (3e, 4e, 5e), Call of Cthulhu (7th edition), and the ALIEN Roleplaying Game, though I've tried many other games as well. As a gamemaster I pride myself on being flexible and enjoying player input: if a player comes up with a novel solution, character, or scene idea, I'm almost always willing to give it a go even if it's not what I planned or what the rules explicitly endorse. I also put *a lot* of work into prepping and enjoy making custom handouts and house rules.

Creating your character
The scenario provides pregenerated characters, but if you'd like to craft your own feel free to use the Quickstart Rules, found here: https://modiphius.net/en-us/products/kult-divinity-lost-quickstart-rules-free-pdf I will go over character creation in detail at an optional session zero, but the basics are as follows. 1. Choose an archetype. If you're familiar with ohter PbTA games this is your playbook. 2. Pick a dark secret. Each archetype provides 3 options to pick from. 3. Assign +2, +1, and +0 to three passive attributes and +3, +2, +1, +1, +0, −1, and −2 to seven active attributes based on your archetype. Passive atttributes are your defenses while active attributes are used to take actions. 4. Pick a Disadvantage. Each archetype has 3 options. 5. Pick an Advantage. Each archetype has 3 options. 6. Choose your name, looks, and personality. Each archetype has some suggestions, which are optional. 7. Choose your relations, which must include a neutral, meaningful, and vital relation. Each archetype provides several optiosn to choose from. Your relations may be with either NPC or PC characters. For PC characters, we'll coordinate relations either during session zero or at the start of the first play session.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Go ahead and take a look at the free rules provided here: https://modiphius.net/en-us/products/kult-divinity-lost-quickstart-rules-free-pdf. It's not necessary you memorize the rules, but it'll be helpful if you familiarize yourself with the basic premise of the setting as well as what moves are and how the game works. You'll need a Discord account to access audio and text chat as well as a web browser to access the virtual tableltop on Foundry VTT. However, you will NOT need your own account with Foundry VTT, just access to the game world from me. I'll also be checking with all players individually, during the optional session zero, and at the beginning of play about safety tools and what content they are or aren't comfortable with to adjust the game accordingly. If you have any questions, reach out to me on here or in the Discord chat. As aforementioned, I'll be hosting an optional session zero for players who want more help preparing.
What Arthur brings to the table
I'm a pretty playful, flexible GM who likes to get into the mood and engage with the players at an emotional level. For that reason I do vary my voice while running the game and also like to employ handouts, maps, and music. I also try to be flexible with scenarios and incorporate player choice into what happens whenever possible. I use rules as a starting point and baseline that set expectations, but I do not expect either myself or the players to memorize every rule in exact detail. Sometimes mistakes will happen and that's okay as long as everyone feels it's fair and we're having fun.

How Arthur creates a safe table
KULT: Divinity Lost includes its own safety tools directly in the rules in the form of a "horror contract" which outlines what are forbidden subjects, stop phrases or signs, and what are scary things the players WANT to see because they're fun. In addition, I will also employ an X card during play sessions, overt content warnings, mid-game breaks, and I'll check in with each player individually before and after play about their boundaries and what can or should be changed.
