About the adventure
**Kansas City by Night** is a roleplay-driven Vampire: The Masquerade 5th Edition Chronicle about survival, identity, conspiracy, and the terrible bargains required to earn a place among the undead. Kansas City is divided by more than a state border. For decades, Camarilla and Anarch Kindred have maintained an uneasy peace. Territories are respected. Old grudges are contained. Everyone understands the rules well enough to know which ones can be broken and which ones get you killed. Then a Primogen dies on the wrong side of the line. Your investigation will take you through the hidden world beneath Kansas City's nightlife: Anarch domains, Thin-Blood alchemists, secret havens, mortal institutions touched by Kindred influence, dangerous alliances, and monsters who have spent decades ensuring their secrets stay buried. Because the Primogen wasn't simply murdered. **She was investigating something.** And whatever she discovered was dangerous enough that someone decided one of the most powerful vampires in Kansas City needed to disappear. Now you're following her footsteps. This Chronicle is structured like a supernatural prestige drama, with distinct **seasons** forming chapters of a larger story. Each season brings its own central conflict, mysteries, relationships, consequences, and climax while gradually revealing the deeper history of Kansas City by Night. Your choices matter. **What kind of monster are you going to become?** You begin with nothing. No Status. No territory. No understanding of the society that has already judged you. Not even the unquestioned right to exist. Just the Black Bag on your head and the Thirst. But if you survive long enough, the same Court that once looked down upon a collection of terrified fledglings may eventually have very different reasons to fear you. **The bag comes off.** **The Court is waiting.** **What do you do?**

About me
Hello! My name is Ben and welcome to an adventure with me! I have been playing tabletop roleplaying games off-and-on for about twenty years, mostly with Dungeons and Dragons and Pathfinder. I have been DMing for about five years at this point, and am excited to branch out to more tables. I love helping new players learn about the game and welcome any and all to my games, as long as they do not engage in harmful behavior to themselves, other players, or the game itself. I try to stick fairly close to the rules, but also do not like to get stuck in the tiny details like rations or ammo, and most of the time if you can tell me how your character would try to accomplish something, I'll at least let you roll for it!

Creating your character
We will have a Session Zero to discuss expectations from the Chronicle, Character Creation can take place at this time using ghoulapp.com, or players can create their Kindred before then if they are familiar with the system. Characters will begin as Fledgling Vampires, all Embraced within the last 3 months or so, due to the plot.

What Ben brings to the table
My goal is to run a game where **your choices shape the city, your character’s history matters, and the world remembers what you do.** This will be a character-driven chronicle built around **politics, personal horror, mystery, ambition, relationships, and consequences**. I’ll provide the city, its factions, secrets, conflicts, and dangerous personalities—but I want the story itself to emerge from what the coterie decides to do with them. What You Can Expect From Me **A world that reacts to you.** Humiliate a rival, and they may remember it. Save someone, and you may gain an unexpected ally. Break a promise, upset a faction, expose a secret, or remove someone powerful, and the political landscape can change because of it. **Real player agency.** I prepare situations, not predetermined solutions. Violence may work, but so might diplomacy, intimidation, investigation, blackmail, favors, deception, influence, or something I never anticipated. Clever ideas and unexpected choices are welcome. **Your character will matter.** Your sire, Touchstones, convictions, ambitions, enemies, relationships, flaws, and history aren’t just character-sheet decoration. They’re potential parts of the chronicle. If you give me something meaningful about your character, I want opportunities for it to become meaningful at the table. **NPCs with their own agendas.** The people you meet won’t simply be quest-givers or obstacles. Allies have ambitions. Enemies have motives. Mentors have secrets. Friends can become liabilities, rivals can become useful, and sometimes the person you hate may be the person whose help you desperately need. **Consequences and continuity.** Decisions from several sessions ago may return in unexpected ways. Boons, grudges, favors, debts, insults, alliances, and unfinished business will matter. I want the chronicle to feel like an evolving history rather than a collection of disconnected adventures. **A strong Vampire atmosphere.** I want to lean into what makes VtM compelling: the struggle between Humanity and the Beast, the cost of power, political maneuvering, predation, secrecy, hunger, loyalty, betrayal, and the question of how much of yourself you are willing to sacrifice to survive another night. That doesn’t mean every session will be relentlessly grim. There should still be room for camaraderie, dark humor, triumph, strange friendships, and those moments when the coterie somehow pulls off something nobody expected. ### The Kind of Players I’m Looking For You don’t need to be a VtM expert. New and experienced players are both welcome. What matters more to me is that you’re interested in **collaborative storytelling**, willing to engage with the other characters, and comfortable making decisio
