About the adventure

Are you and your family tired of fending for yourselves at home? Are you sick of constantly having to eat on the go? Has weeks of traversing a post-apocalyptic wasteland left you desperate for the comforts of the before times? Then come on down to the Waffle House of the Dead, right off— [INDETERMINABLE RADIO STATIC]!! Our professionally trained, trained professionals are ready to seat your party at the door and serve you the same fresh, human made goodness you remember from before the living dead came crawling out of the sand to haunt us all a second time! And I thought my mother-in-law was bad when she was alive! [CHIME SFX] DISCLAIMER: Waffle House and its associated staff and properties cannot fully guarantee the safety of guests or guests’ belongings, including their breakfast deals. Bartering is not an acceptable form of payment. If your location tries to make or accept a trade with a guest, please contact our team via smoke signal at these co-ordinates— [INDETERMINABLE STATIC] The Waffle House family hopes to see you soon! --- "Waffle House of the Dead" is a one-shot using the 1d6 Waffle House is Open system by Tiny Ghost Chef Games. The premise and gameplay are simple: You and your friends must take shelter with your fellow survivors and the staff of a Waffle House that, despite the zombie apocalypse going on outside, is still open and serving breakfast! (supplies allowing, of course...) There is no bulky character sheet to take care of, as the game sets you and your fellow survivors closer to the likes of Shaun and Ed or Bryan Hodukavich than Leon Kennedy. All dices are made straight with a single d6, with the only modifiers coming from when you fail. The apocalypse is rough, folks!

About me

Hello! My name is Rosie (he/they), I'm a queer, neurodivergent, amateur GM who's mostly run unpaid, casual games until now. So far I have only run Dungeons & Dragons 5e, but I hope to expand my library of systems as I get more experience under my belt! I've been playing tabletop for about seven years now, and have been DMing for just as long, if not longer (everyone's had a Forever GM phase lol). I find TTRPGs to be fascinating and exciting tools for building characters and telling stories, with things such as dice rolls providing exhilerating twists so that the same tale can never be told twice!

Character creation

Creating your character

There is no formal character creation process, so all players have to do is run a character concept by me for approval before we meet. Player Characters in the Waffle House is Open system are Ordinary People. Think more Shaun of the Dead in terms of main character than Resident Evil.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Players should have access to a Discord account so that they can join the server we will be meeting in. The link to said server will be made available upon sign-up.

What Rose brings to the table

Waffle House of the Dead is a theatre-of-the-mind game, but while there won't be complex maps or sheets to look at, there will be a playlist provided to set the tone, and my earnest attempt at distinct character voices. The system itself is also rather rules-lite, so Rule of Cool will definitely be at play at my discretion.

Safety

How Rose creates a safe table

Players will each be sent a Lines and Veils document that MUST be filled out before start of session. Once all players have filled out the document, the results will be gathered and shared anonymously with the group, so that everyone is aware of what is and isn't allowed at the table. Players can also use X, N, & O cards during gameplay, either via saying so out loud during a session, or messaging me privately.
