About the adventure

In this bespoke adventure is set in a somber zombie apocalypse world, you must look for a doctor to deliver a baby before times runs out. You will transverse dangerous environments, fight zombies and raiders, manage scarce resources and investigate a crime. It is inspired by Project Zomboid, The Walking Dead and The Last of Us. If you would like to immerse yourself in a realistic narrative-first zombie post-apocalyptic game and live through the (possibly dammed) fate of a survivor, this game is for you. Pre-generated characters will be provided and you will have all the guidance you need to learn FATE, a fast and easy-to-learn narrative-focused system. "Isabela, one of your own, is pregnant and about to deliver. Her pregnancy has been inspiring hope and joy in the settlement -- a fragile beam of hope amidst the death of humanity. However, the doctor that was supposed to come and help with this high-risk delivery is a week late. Tension raises as time runs out. You volunteered to be part of a search party for the doctor, accepting the risk of facing the dead -- or worse: the raider gangs. Will you be able to overcome the overwhelming odds and bring the doctor in time -- or will this be just another nail in the coffin of humanity?"

About me

Heroes wanted, survival not guaranteed, laughs likely. Fight as AIs in a bloodsport for human audiences. Embark on a suicide mission to the heart of a tyrannical empire. Brave hordes of zombies to save an unborn child. Investigate the carnage in the swamp. The world is mine to build, but its secrets are yours to decide. Don’t be surprised if I ask you what you see under the bed. Never played before? Perfect. Tell me what you do, and I’ll tell you what to roll. In games like Fate and Daggerheart, failure only adds a twist. Roleplaying found me at eleven. It had everything I loved: games and people. Then I devoured every book and magazine I could find. At twelve, I ran my first adventures for friends and family. Two years later, I kept a campaign going for a year—where we saved the world from impending doom, of course. Growing up in Brazil in the late 90s, I could barely find RPG material. So I crafted my own monsters, adventures and systems. I never stopped. Pick an adventure. Your seat is waiting. System-wise, I am experienced in FATE, Daggerheart and Powered by the Apocalypse games. I am a supporter of systems that serve and elevate the storytelling. I discovered TTRPGs when I was 11 years old, because it is the mixture of two things I love: gaming and social interaction. After that, I absolutely devoured every book and magazine I could find about it. Soon, at 12, I began GM-ing for friends and family. At 14 I GM-ed a year-long campaign (in which we saved the world from impending doom, obviously) and since then TTRPGs have been a constant in my life. Growing up, it was hard to find RPG-related material in the late 90s and early 2000s in Brazil, so I got used to home-brewing monsters, adventures, rules and even systems. To this day I prefer (and quite enjoy) writing my own adventures. I believe TTRPGs are one of the best ways of having fun playing games while connecting with other people, and this is what I want to provide to my players.

Character creation

Creating your character

There will be pre-generated characters available and that is what I suggest you to use. If you want to create a character yourself, please, let me know beforehand, as I will review them before the session.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Have a computer with a microphone connected. Having a cam is suggested, but not required. Have an account on Discord (that is free) and make sure you are logged in, we will use that for communication before and during the game. We will use FoundryVTT as table top platform, no installation or purchase is required. Links to Foundry will be made available via discord. Reading through the rules is a plus. You can legally read the rules for free here: https://fate-srd.com/fate-condensed/introduction

What Mateus Matuca brings to the table

Expect a realistic setting, with meaningful player choices and a somber, yet beautiful, story. In the technical side of things, we will have music, and basic battle maps and tokens. Do not expect an audiovisual spectacle, map/hex based exploration, highly crunchy and tactical combat, and "Critical role" level of role-play and voice acting.

Homebrew rules

- The resources skill determines a novel resource track: resources. It represents the scarce resources you have gathered. - There is no "drive" skill. - Stress = 3 + relevant skill. The relevant skill for physical stress "Physique" and for mental stress is "Will". If stress is > 6, the amount of stress exceeding 6 becomes extra minor consequence boxes.

Safety

How Mateus Matuca creates a safe table

Before the session: Lines and Veils available previously to the game on a dedicated discord channel (suggestions are accepted). During the session: The X card can be used during the game (either digital, messaged, or held up on video). I always do a bio/refocusing break in the middle of the session. At the end of the session: we do a quick stars and wishes chat to help reflect on what we liked and what we would have liked to see. One-on-one aftercare via video/voice will be provided when requested.
