About me
My day job as a webdev taught me technology should fade into the background. The same goes for rules: my job is making sure you know enough rules and in-game-lore to feel informed and empowered. I was trained how to teach a game to new players, in a way they have fun the whole time, when starting a university board game club. It's hard for everyone to make time for games. I do my best to run a scheduled game 'no matter what.' You may be surprised at what I “let you get away with” – but that's the point of a roleplaying game! The whole reason I’m here is to allow you greater freedom than any computer or boardgame could ever allow. My role is to invent reactions and consequenses. I have diagnosed and medicated ADHD, one of the ways it can show up is a deep craving for emotional intensity. My toxic trait is seeking strong reactions. Years of unconscious practice mean I have developed a knack for pressing buttons, stirring up conflict, and chasing those moments that make people around me feel. That used to get me into trouble. But as a GM? It’s my greatest strength. I channel that energy into crafting unforgettable story beats and emotionally charged choices. When you disappoint a friendly “Non-Player Character”, I’ll make it hurt. When a villain taunts you, you will burn to take them down. I use every narrative trick in the book to draw you deeper into your character’s journey. Join me in crafting adventures where your characters live, breathe, and grow! (possibly into horrible flesh monsters, to be determined)

Creating your character
It takes about 2 minutes to make a character in this game! we'll build them as part of the session.
Brace: a hound Gale: a whisper They have made friends with the inspectors and brought a corrupted spiritward to justice.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
I use Discord for the voice chat, everything else won't require you to make an account. The playbooks: Cutter: The ultimate muscle and combat specialist. Hound: The tracker, sniper, and animal handler. Leech: The gadgeteer, alchemist, and demolitions expert. Lurk: The stealth, burglary, and infiltration expert. Slide: The face, social manipulator, and impersonator. Spider: The mastermind, planner, and networker Whisper: The occultist who speaks with spirits and controls arcane power Background: Academic: Well-educated type, school or otherwise, my guess is this is going to have an interesting twist as to why you joined a crew in Duskvol Labor: Working-class folk, never in charge, probably already facing some sort of danger at work and maybe an easier story into why they might join a crew? Law: Working for those in charge, maybe even a Bluecoat, might be an interesting twist to see why they changed sides? Trade: This might sound similar to ‘Labor’ but seems to be described as being a more skilled craft, a merchant-level sort of tier. Military: Former soldiers are a common trope in gang/mob/heist stories, I imagine folks choosing a Cutter might look to this one often. Noble: Living the good life, or maybe used to and have fallen onto hard times? If a noble is in the trenches of the district fighting for turf, I imagine they must have a strong motivation against someone or other options have been removed from them. Underworld: If you are already on the streets or somehow already involved in the existing underworld, you have an easy tie-in to the crew life but maybe have some sort of axe to grind or ambition for more. Heritage: Akoros: Described as a European-like conglomerate of cultures, this is where the default setting of the city of Duskwall (or Doskvol) is located. I treat this like ‘Human’ in D&D where it’s a wide choice of where you are from and what your life was like. Dagger Isles: You probably spent time on a boat and don’t have a specific place you call home. Iruvia: Described as a ‘foreign’ desert country in “the South” (again, think European-centric) this is supposed to be more like an old Persia, Egypt, or India. Very powerful kingdoms that have a different culture making you feel a little ‘out of place’ in Doskvol. Severos: Nomadic horse-tribes from the deathlands, probably similar to being a Goliath Barbarian type of idea. Skovlan: An island kingdom near Doskvol that lost the war and was ‘unified’ into the Empire against their will. You probably have a chip on your soldier, but likely not a bunch else to your name. Tycheros: This is literally described as the “wierd” one. Maybe a Tiefling type of option? Supposedly part demon, you get to have a demonic physical feature that sets you apart

How Isaac Schubert creates a safe table
We are all adults here, I maintain an open door policy. If you have to step away for *any reason*, I'm not going to be annoyed or angry. I will find a way to progress the story, such as cutting away to other characters. I want to make sure I can improve; and know some things can be difficult to say directly. Please use it! My goal is to get better! There are certain themes that are central to the text and cannot be avoided. Blade in the Dark games generally play on themes of body horror, ghosts, and desperation. Antagonist NPCs may also have unpleasant, political beliefs: these are almost always an obstacle to the player characters. Anyone wishing to discuss triggers may get with me privately over Discord or SPG. For any situation you find too stressful, simply go AFK for as long as you require. My games are the equivalent of a PG-13 movie. I don't do explicit sexual content, but I may allude to it. Tabletop role-playing games are meant to be an escape from the troubles of our daily lives. Above-table prejudices, including racism, misogyny, homophobia and transphobia are NOT acceptable at my table and will lead to your immediate removal.
