About the adventure

Legendarium is a metaconcept based on the idea that all the heroes and characters we've come to know via history and pop culture and operate in a Hidden world unbeknownst to everyday folks. If you're familiar with the idea behind League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. Grimm, and Peaky Blinders, this is a similar concept. You will (usually) be playing operatives of Agency 0, the shadowy group that oversees and regulates all the inhabitants of the Hidden World.

About me

Hi- My name’s Darrick, I have online folks call me DC. Lifelong artist/cartoonist, writer and storyteller. I came relatively late into the hobby when i was in college. I became player and then GM since 1998. I feel like I'm better behind the screen so I'm a Forever GM with no regrets. Straight up, I’m not a fan of edgy, grimdark or ‘gritty” narratives. I respect Warhammer but can’t bring myself to play in it. Not a fan of GoT or The Boys so my storylines do not veer into those themes. I run largely heroic or "good" themed games. PG-13 most times with occasional dips into R if the situation and group feel appropriate. All safety rules and boundaries respected. Just let me know if you’re uncomfortable. I do my best, but I don’t always catch everything. I always “try to be nice, but never fail to be kind”. As an aging nerd and oldtaku My approach to storytelling is largely shaped by 80s cartoons and comics, plus a lot of anime and JRPGs. I do have my own setting that I’ve been developing as a story and TTRPG setting for over 20 years, called Onward Bound. I may bring that to SP if my experience is positive here. I consider myself more of a storyteller than a rules lawyer. If you show up at my table, I want to make sure you have fun. As a wise wizard once said the only ill will you will find at my table is what you bring yourself. Everyone's welcome at my table unless they plan to make other people feel unwelcome. I'm pro player and I want people to walk away from my games feeling better, not worse about themselves. Everyone is welcome at my table. At my table, we do not bag on folks for their sexual orientation or identity, their chosen faith, or their heritage. I'm not perfect, but i AM open to correction. I won't ask your politics, but I will tell you I'm largely progressive and probably qualify as the leftmost side of moderate.

Character creation

Creating your character

So this is going to be a little different. This is set in an alternate version of the "real world" where many of the characters we know from pop culture exist. Magic exists. The Supernatural exists. Superheroes (to a lesser extent) exist. Your characters can be almost anyone or anything, they just have to follow these basic guidelines: -You're part of an organization called Agency 0. You're not necessarily military, but specialists from various fields. You can be a hacker, a mage, a priest...the only unifying theme is that you are willing to work, in whatever capacity, as part of a team.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

You'll need a stable net connection. I'll be running through Zoom but you won't need a pro account or anything. Everything is Theater of the Mind.

What DC Chen brings to the table

Everything is Theater of the Mind and I lean on the Rule of Cool. Yes, I do voices. Sometimes even good ones. I'm still working out how best to use music during an online game so that it's not distracting to me or players. There's going to be a LOT of pop culture references.

How DC Chen creates a safe table

You may notice there are extensive content warnings. This is me being overcautious because I don't always know what's going to happen in a session. I will tell you I don't use SA or child abuse in ANY form- not for drama or emotional impact. Ever. I do my best to run a progressive and safe table, but I'm not perfect and I'm ignorant of some things. If that arises, I am open to correction.
