About the adventure

After Ullanor, something has changed in the Legion. Perhaps it's only yours, perhaps it's the other legions as well. But there are rumours that the Great Crusade is ending. That the Emperor has turned to other matters. There are whispers of secret meetings. Secrecy. Not at all what you've come to expect of your brotherhood. Not like this.  And that's where we start. You are a legionaire in the last days of the Great Crusade. We all know how it'll end. We know the horror that will be unleashed on the galaxy. But in this universe, only a few have an inkling of what is about to happen. Your character certainly doesn't. But he does uncover something. There is something going on and it is up to him to investigate. Or perhaps to ignore it and go along with it. Everything is possible and every path is dangerous in more ways than one. A Space Marine does not fear death. But there are far worse things that could happen. Like dishonour. The core idea of this roleplay is that we start right where corruption really sets its teeth into the Legiones Astartes. Your character finds out that something is going on and that gives him decisions to make. He can go in all directions. He doesn't have to be a traitor or loyal. But whatever he does, he could end up shaping events far beyond anyone else in the galaxy. Sometimes, a single genetically engineered supersoldier can make the difference.  Despite this story being about a Space Marine, a large part of the focus of it won't be on combat but instead, it will be about the ties of brotherhood, conflicting loyalties, and all the secrets that can exist. Your character can be from almost any legion, although there are a few I'd like to avoid because they might be more complicated. In the Alpha Legion for instance, it's impossible to tell what's going on even for their commanders. So that might just be a chaotic mess.  For this story, some knowledge of the setting would be useful but it definitely isn't necessary to be an expert who knows all the captains at specific battles or the like.

About me

Hi! I'm Dirk and I've been GM-ing for around twenty-five years by now and like to think that I've gotten fairly good at it. Like many people, I started playing Dungeons and Dragons (3.0 back then. Just in time for the complains about 3.5. Yes, edition wars are that old). Fairly quickly, I found that some stories are better told with other systems and so, I built up a slightly oversized collection of books and experience with a plethora of systems. I've ran games for groups of friends and also like to run games at conventions and the like. I find that every story should be tailored to the people at the table, whether it's virtual or an actual one. Aside from games, I enjoy painting miniatures, literature, and, of course, cooking and baking. Those however are a little less relevant for online gaming.

Character creation

Creating your character

Your character will be made according to the Deathwatch rules and we will start at a slightly higher level than usual. After all, if it comes to fighting, if would be good for you to stand a chance. There are rules for a few of the legions in the books, but if you pick one that isn't, we can make fitting rules for it. And even many of the loyal ones will have to be modified. After all, a lot has changed in ten millennia. And you're here to change things in another direction.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

We will be writing on a special-made Discord server that also includes a dice roller and where we can share all necessary information, from character sheets to extra rules and backstory elements.

What Dirk brings to the table

The heart of the this roleplay will be your character and how they, as a member of one of the legions, decide to act or not act. And the outcomes that leads to.

How Dirk creates a safe table

We will discuss in advance whether there are any topics that are to be avoided or treaded lightly around. We will also use X-cards to immediately stop anything that moves into an unwanted direction.
