About the adventure

Welcome to Asragrad! A port city, rich, corrupt, and built on the backs of people who never agreed to be there. Under the docks and the taverns, a resistance network led by the famous bard Feanor just lost two of its people. A mysterious smuggler carrying relief crates, and a noble's daughter who'd been helping him behind her own family's back. Nobody knows where they are yet. That's your job to find out, and then figure out how to get them back. You're not part of the cause, not yet. But you were handpicked by Feanor himself for your talents. Around you the city is on the brink: a riot building in a temple district, old money deciding whether slavery is worth dying to protect, and a concert that's really cover for something much bigger. Daggerheart Beginner: Tier 1 characters. Pregenerated characters available, several of whom already know Feanor personally. Expect investigation as much as combat, and the consequences of moving too slow are real.

About me

Hi, I'm David. I've been running tabletop games since the early 2000s, based in Vienna. Most of that time went into long campaigns that actually pay off character arcs. The kind of thing you'd expect from a good fantasy series, not a one-off dungeon crawl. My main project is The Three Continents, a low-magic, Renaissance-flavored world I've been building for over a decade. Right now I'm running its flagship story, Divine Harvest. If you know the works of G.R.R. Martin, that's the closest reference point: big scope, slow burn, characters you end up genuinely caring about. Runs in D&D 5e or Daggerheart. Arc 1 is built as a real starting point, so if you've never played before, you're not walking in behind anyone. Same approach carries over to other systems I run. I treat the table like an ensemble cast, not just a group rolling dice at each other. Off the table, I work as a GM on Demand in Vienna, run team-building workshops that use role-play as a core mechanic for businesses, and I'm self-publishing my own work, including a lore book and a novel for Divine Harvest. I'm also an archaeologist and historian by training, which feeds directly into how I build worlds. First session ever, five-hundredth, doesn't matter. Come as you are, as the song goes. Message me and let's chat.

Character creation

Creating your character

You can either play one of my pregenerated characters, built specifically for the main story and ready to go in Foundry, or create your own. Three of my pregens use homebrew classes from the Homebrew Vault, and if you check with me first, I'm very open to homebrew classes or subclasses for your own characters as long as they fit the setting. Pregenerated characters: • Kal'uriel, Infernis Warrior, former slave turned slave liberator • Ryotahnil, Elven Combat Wizard, former mage hunter • Dimitrij, Human Bard, chasing down his own role model • Elaenya, Half-Elf Rogue and pirate, slave liberator • Jellena, Human Seraph, noble daughter and slave liberator • Helge ven Korhan, young Dwarven Dualist, searching for his uncle If you'd rather build your own: • New characters start Arc 1 at Level 1. • Almost all core Ancestries, Classes, and Communities are open to you. • A few are off the table for in-world reasons for now: Clank, Drakona, Aetheris, and the Earth-, Ember-, Sky-, and Tidekin. • This is a grounded world, but every playable Ancestry has its own integrated history within it that allows some flexibility. • In actual play, we run on a Foundry VTT instance, where sheets get imported, tokens get moved, and dice get rolled. For character creation, I recommend Demiplane. We'll transfer your character to Foundry VTT in Session Zero. • We do Milestone Leveling, sometimes called Story-Based Leveling. Each Arc runs at least three sessions, one per act, and you level up at the end of each one. • Got a custom character or an unusual concept in mind? Reach out. I'll give you the in-world context you need and we'll figure out how to make it work.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

No preparation on the world setting is required. Everything essential gets experienced in-world, with a brief introduction in Session Zero. If you want a head start anyway, see "What I Provide" for the character and setting materials I make available. Three accounts to set up before we start, all free: Discord, Forge VTT, and optionally Demiplane. Discord is where the table lives day to day. Sign up and an invite lands in your inbox on its own. Once you're in, find me in the entrance channel and I'll get your roles sorted. For the game itself, we run on Foundry, hosted through Forge VTT (https://forge-vtt.com/). Grab a free account there and you're set, no purchase needed. Demiplane (https://app.demiplane.com/home) is optional, worth using if you want to build your character there. It covers character creation fine at level 1, but anything past that, including leveling up, sits behind a paywall. Not a real problem though, since leveling is just as easy directly in Foundry.

What David brings to the table

The Three Continents, and this campaign, are built 100% by a human - me. I designed it to feel real and historical, a world that grew into what it is rather than one built to spec. Darkness is countered by hope, villainy is countered by virtue, and a wide grey area in between. I run cinematic, immersion-first games: handpicked soundtracks (often where my own ideas start), and theater-of-mind "cutscenes" woven through play. You're not on a railroad. There's a clear main story, especially in the early arcs, but your choices carry real weight, closer to Baldur's Gate 3 than a module you're being walked through. Arcs run a 3-act structure and close within themselves, cliffhangers aside. Following the main story takes about 3 sessions per arc; I leave room for detours up to 5. You'll get a one-page character sheet with everything you need on your character and the world, whether you're playing a pregen or building your own. If you know your direction, I'll give you a one-pager on your ancestry and class. If you don't, I have a full ancestry overview to help you choose. An optional player guide covers the common knowledge your character would have, and beyond that, I've got over a hundred pages of in-world lore I'll publish eventually, free for my players in the meantime.

Homebrew rules

Two optional homebrew systems available for this campaign: a deeper Stress system inspired by Blades in the Dark, built on top of Daggerheart's own Stress rules, and a Mass Combat system for cinematic battles where you can lead or support troops in the field, built on top of Daggerheart's Horde and Countdown rules. Both are optional, and if we use them, we'll ease in slowly.

Safety

How David creates a safe table

Our safety toolkit: Open Door, X/N/O Cards, scheduled Breaks, and Lines & Veils. StartPlaying has its own explanation of these tools (https://intercom.help/startplaying/en/articles/8719199-safety-tools), but here's what they actually mean at my table: • Since the world is meant to feel historic, with all the weight that entails, I'll send you a link to my Lines & Veils document before we start. If anything comes up after you've reviewed it, or partway through the campaign, bring it to me any time. It gets taken seriously, always. • Stepping away mid-session is always fine, no reason needed, no questions asked. • If something in a scene isn't sitting right with you, tell me. Voice, or a Discord DM if that's easier. We'll pause, adjust, and keep it anonymous if you'd rather not explain in front of the group. • We build in a 10-minute break, usually around the halfway point, and add more if the table needs them. • One more thing: this table is run for all people, including LGBTQ+ people. Harassment, hate speech, and bigotry of any kind, including transphobia, racism, ableism, sexism, and homophobia, get zero tolerance, full stop.
