About the adventure

The Stargate is humanity’s doorway to the stars—and to threats Earth is barely prepared to face. As members of SG-7, you are one of Stargate Command’s frontline exploration teams, sent through the Gate to investigate alien worlds, recover advanced technology, establish diplomatic contacts, uncover the remains of civilizations that vanished thousands of years ago, and confront the Goa’uld powers that still dominate much of the galaxy. Every mission begins with the same step through the event horizon. What waits on the other side is rarely predictable. This campaign takes the premise of Stargate SG-1 and gives it a harder, more grounded edge. We’ll use the Modern AGE rules in Gritty Mode, emphasizing capable but vulnerable characters, dangerous firefights, limited resources, investigation, exploration, diplomacy, and decisions with lasting consequences. The visual and narrative aesthetic leans toward the “used realism” of The Expanse: equipment looks functional, military operations have procedures and logistics, alien technology feels genuinely extraordinary, and getting shot is something characters would rather avoid. The galaxy is larger than the television series had room to show. Ancient ruins litter forgotten worlds, human civilizations have developed independently across the stars, and several technologically advanced societies maintain a loose network of trade, diplomacy, and mutual protection. Meanwhile, the Goa’uld remain powerful, divided, and constantly maneuvering against one another. Alliances will change. Worlds will rise and fall. SG-7’s actions can alter that balance—and Earth is still the newcomer at the table. This game is for players who enjoy exploration, military science fiction, archaeological mysteries, first-contact situations, political intrigue, tactical action, and having more than one reasonable solution to a problem. Familiarity with Stargate or Modern AGE is helpful but not required. You do not need to know the canon to play; you only need to be willing to walk through the Gate.

Character creation

Creating your character

Characters will be created before the first session using Modern AGE as the core rulebook. We will be playing in Gritty Mode. The Expanse RPG may be used when rules for spacecraft and space combat are needed, while other Modern AGE supplements may be used for additional character options and rules with GM approval. Characters begin at 1st level. Ability scores are purchased rather than rolled. All nine abilities begin at 0, and each character receives 12 advancements to distribute among them. Each advancement increases one ability by 1, no ability may begin higher than 3, and all 12 advancements must be spent. Backgrounds may increase abilities normally. Under this method, no starting ability can be below 0 or reach 4 through ability purchasing alone. Character concepts should fit the Stargate Command mission: military personnel, scientists, archaeologists, diplomats, intelligence specialists, engineers, physicians, or other experts with a plausible reason to serve on an SG team. Characters do not need to be soldiers, but everyone should bring something useful to exploration, first contact, investigation, or survival beyond the Gate. Advancement uses Milestone leveling rather than individual experience points. The entire group advances together when significant campaign milestones are reached, so no character will fall behind because of missed sessions or differing XP awards.

What Augur (Lloyd) brings to the table

💖 Pulse-pounding suspense ⛰️ Detailed, immersive maps 🎻 Excellent soundtracks 🎵 Suspenseful ambient audio 🌌 Custom Stargate imagery, handouts, and visual aids ⚔️ Dangerous, tactical encounters shaped by Gritty Mode 🧭 Exploration, investigation, diplomacy, and meaningful player choice Everything players need for a fun gaming experience is furnished through the campaign platforms. Players need only bring a working microphone, a good attitude, and a desire to have fun. Please leave real-world politics and prejudices at home. They have no place at my table. The goal is to enjoy the game, tell a good story, and entertain players of all backgrounds and viewpoints.

Homebrew rules

This campaign uses Modern AGE with a small number of variant and supplemental rules: * Gritty Mode is used for combat and damage. * Ability scores are purchased using Option 2: all abilities begin at 0, and players receive 12 advancements to distribute, with no ability purchased above 3. * Milestone leveling is used instead of individual XP. The entire group advances together. * The Expanse RPG may be used for spacecraft and space-combat rules when needed. * Other Modern AGE supplements may be used for additional rules and character options where appropriate. * Rules questions are generally resolved in favor of consistency, plausibility, and keeping the game moving rather than stopping play for prolonged rules interpretation. The intent is to keep the core Modern AGE system intact while adapting it to the Stargate setting and the campaign’s more grounded, dangerous tone.

Safety

How Augur (Lloyd) creates a safe table

Session Zero and an Open Door policy are always in effect. During Session Zero, we will discuss the campaign’s tone, expected content, character concepts, table expectations, and any subjects players would prefer to avoid or keep off-screen. Players are always welcome to raise additional concerns privately at any point during the campaign. The Open Door policy means anyone may step away from a scene, take a break, or leave a session without being pressured to explain themselves. If something in play becomes uncomfortable, players may speak up directly or message me privately through Discord. The goal is straightforward: everyone at the table should be able to enjoy the game without being trapped in material they do not want to engage with. Real-world politics and prejudices are not welcome at the table.
