About the adventure

The Mists of Ravenloft are sick. Domains that should never touch are bleeding into one another. Travelers vanish in the fog and wake in lands they've never seen - black snow falling on cities that never knew winter, the dead marching down roads that lead nowhere. And at the heart of the anomaly, something is building. You and your party have been dragged into this nightmare. Every stop is a test: fear, will, truth. The Carnival that appears from nowhere with two corpses in its shadow. Falkovnia, the last fortified city holding back an ocean of zombies. Darkon, a realm dissolving into the fog - and the secret of its missing lord. Each domain you cross brings you closer to the answer: who is behind the sickness, and what do the Mists want from you? This is Ravenloft without Strahd: three classic domains of dread plus a finale you build at the table, combat heavy for the sake of survival. You didn't choose to enter the Mists. But you can choose how you leave.

I run custom campaigns using Foundry VTT with full automation, animated maps, music via Discord bots, and campaign wikis. My background in Biomedical Informatics brings vivid detail and realism to every scene. Whether you’re new or experienced, you’ll be welcomed with a Session Zero and open feedback culture. Let’s create something unforgettable together!

Character creation

Creating your character

Character creation happens in Session Zero using the 2024 Player's Handbook, with options from Ravenloft: The Horrors Within. - Starting level: 3 (milestone leveling to 9-10) - Ability scores: Standard Array or Point Buy - All PHB 2024 species and classes allowed - Optional Ravenloft content: 7 new subclasses (Reanimator Artificer, College of Spirits Bard, Grave Domain Cleric, Hollow Warden Ranger, Phantom Rogue, Shadow Sorcery Sorcerer, Undead Patron Warlock), new species, backgrounds (Haunted One, Investigator, Mist Wanderer, Spirit Medium), and Dark Gifts - Characters should have a reason to be traveling together when the Mists take them - Consider: what is your character afraid of? How do they react under pressure? Horror heroes have flaws - embrace them - Pre-generated characters available on request for players who prefer to jump in I'll guide you through everything in Session Zero. No prior Ravenloft knowledge needed - the campaign is built for players who know the basics of 5e but are new to the Domains of Dread.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

To prepare for Session Zero: 1. Read the D&D 2024 rules primer (provided) if you're new to the 2024 ruleset. 2. Bring a character concept: species, class, and a rough backstory (1 paragraph is enough) 3. Think about 2-3 things that unsettle your character - fears that will shape their reactions 4. Working microphone and stable internet connection required 5. Discord account for voice; Foundry VTT access link provided (no install needed - runs in browser) No Ravenloft experience required. New to the setting? Perfect -discovering it through the Mists is the point.

What DM Yan brings to the table

Fully automated Foundry VTT: 2024 character sheets, dynamic lighting, atmospheric maps, soundscapes, and token art for every creature - including custom art for key monsters. - Professional-grade narration and pacing built for horror (700+ sessions as a paid DM) - All official and third-party content provided - you buy nothing - A safe, inclusive table: Session Zero, Lines & Veils, X-Card, debriefing after intense sessions - Session recordings available for review - Custom handouts: the carnival flyer, mist talismans, the scholar's letters - physical props in VTT form - A campaign that adapts to your choices: the finale (become a Darklord, destroy the process, or find a third way) is decided at the table, not by the module

Homebrew rules

- D&D 2024 rules as written, with Ravenloft: The Horrors Within domain mechanics (Wandering the Mists, mist talismans) - Milestone leveling by campaign arc (not session-by-session XP) - Real PHB 2024 conditions only - no invented statuses - House rule: you can always ask "what do I notice?" - I'll tell you what your character's senses catch, no roll required

Safety

How DM Yan creates a safe table

Horror is about tension, not harm. We'll align in Session Zero on what everyone is comfortable with: - Lines & Veils: tell me what's off-limits (hard lines) and what's okay to fade to black (veils). I respect them absolutely, no questions asked - X-Card: anyone can tap out of a scene at any moment, no explanation needed - Debriefing: after heavy sessions we check in - how did it feel, anything to adjust - Open Door: you can leave the table anytime, for any reason, no hard feelings - This is a game about fictional characters in a fictional nightmare. Real people at the table come first Content notes: this campaign features zombies, gothic horror, body horror, mind control themes, and morally difficult choices (e.g., whether to sacrifice one person to save many). Nothing graphic is described gratuitously - the goal is dread, not shock.
