About the adventure
Welcome to Vancouver by night! In this play-by-post one-on-one roleplay you will take on the role of a regular inhabitant or visitor of the city who unknowingly draws the eye of a vampire. The story starts just before your character is embraced and we will explore how they find their place in the world of darkness. And, of course, see how they may rise or fall. There are many things going on in the city, and your character will have a definite impact on them. And in the longer run, they will be able to shape events. Naturally, there will be plenty of NPCs, some of whom will also have to be partially designed by you. Or at least, have a basic concept given. After all, if there for instance is a spouse or parent, you should have a say about who they are. As a play by post game, my goal as a storyteller is to post at least once per day in a way that moves the story and character forward in some way. We will reserve rolls for the most relevant bits to keep things moving. The core of this game will be character development and really exploring the world of darkness. Action will be a less important element and will be reserved for crucial dramatic moments. After all, what is a mere neonate to do against the power of the elders? This game is open to everyone, from someone who has never played a game before to someone who knows the whole metaplot by heart. I can however say that the focus will be local and on the main character and their relations with the rest of the world. In a vampire game, there can definitely be darker themes and we will discuss beforehand what works for both of us.

About me
Hi! I'm Dirk and I've been GM-ing for around twenty-five years by now and like to think that I've gotten fairly good at it. Like many people, I started playing Dungeons and Dragons (3.0 back then. Just in time for the complains about 3.5. Yes, edition wars are that old). Fairly quickly, I found that some stories are better told with other systems and so, I built up a slightly oversized collection of books and experience with a plethora of systems. I've ran games for groups of friends and also like to run games at conventions and the like. I find that every story should be tailored to the people at the table, whether it's virtual or an actual one. Aside from games, I enjoy painting miniatures, literature, and, of course, cooking and baking. Those however are a little less relevant for online gaming.
View Profile →Character creation
Creating your character
There are several options for character creation, based on what you prefer. But in all cases, we will first make a regular human character who will be turned into a vampire in play. We will first discuss a brief backstory for them that can, of course, be developed further later. One option is that you make a character according to the rules in the rulebook, without the vampire benefits. You can also give me a rough idea for your character concept and I'll make one for you. As a final option, we can do it together, through chat. You will of course get to pick the clan you want to be embraced into. All books for these gamelines can be used to make the character and balance isn't much of an issue with a single character in the game.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
We will be writing on a special-made Discord server that also includes a dice roller and where we can share all necessary information, from character sheets to extra rules and backstory elements.
What Dirk brings to the table
The main focus of this game is to develop a character as they become embraced into the world of vampires and all the horrors they must deal with. We will collaborate on creating their story. For the rules, we will use either the Vampire the Masquerade or Requiem rules. Whichever you prefer because I know both systems. Abilities and the like can be taken from all versions of the games (unless there are really complicated differences) and we will be generally relatively freeform with the application of the rules.

How Dirk creates a safe table
We will discuss in advance whether there are any topics that are to be avoided or treaded lightly around. We will also use X-cards to immediately stop anything that moves into an unwanted direction.
