About the adventure
In the city of Waterdeep, under a famous inn and tavern named the Yawning Portal, lies a dungeon. Created by the insane archmage Halaster Blackcloak, it is a place of danger and opportunity. Those who go there and leave often find themselves drifting back, with some strange attraction in its depths. Treasure awaits, but the dungeon is fraught with strange magics and challenging monsters. Will you gather your adventuring companions, and venture down to seek your fortune? A Dungeons and Dragons 5th edition game. Open to any level of experience, whether you are completely new to the game, or have played before.

About me
I have enjoyed running play by post, in person and online rpgs in different systems, including Dungeons & Dragons fifth edition, Pathfinder 1e, Pathfinder 1e Spheres of Power, and Fate Accelerated. A lot of rpgs can expand into other areas, and I am happy to see players becoming friends with each other, doing artwork and expressing themselves through other creative outlets, and in some cases going on to be DMs themselves. The Daggerheart system looks incredibly enticing, so I am looking into running games of that.

Creating your character
Characters begin at level 5. There will be an initial session, referred to as session zero, to discuss house rules (rules specifically for this campaign), safety tools, and character creation. Default to 2024 rules, if you want to use some things, eg subclasses, from 2014 rules, let me know and we can discuss. 27 point buy for stats. Feats are fine, using standard rules. Multiclassing is fine, using the usual rules. New players will have the option to pick from some pregenerated characters if that is easier.

What Raymond brings to the table
I bring experience and enthusiasm of running Introduction to Dungeons and Dragons 5e for several years at the board games cafe that I worked at, and recently also created campaigns using the rulesets of Pathfinder 1e and Spheres of Power. Several of my players have joined campaigns run by myself or other people, and some have also become Dungeon Masters themselves, having fun running their own games! Happy to explain rules as we go, for newer players. Experienced players are also welcome to join in! I am mostly familiar with the rules, though not perfect, and am occasionally willing to go with Rule of Cool if I deem that the situation is conducive to it. I will be running things mostly by the book, but may occasionally modify the content of the adventure.
Homebrew rules
Rolling a natural 1 on a ranged attack has a chance of hitting something else in the same line. Custom experience system. To get to level 2, will need two xp ticks, which will then reset to zero. Then to get to level 3, will need three xp ticks, etc.

How Raymond creates a safe table
I typically run more casual games, and am used to introducing new people to Dungeons and Dragons 5e. SAFETY TOOLS These will be discussed during the initial session, referred to as session zero. Lines and Veils set the boundaries of the game, so at session zero there will be a chance to discuss anything that people would rather not have in the game. This includes lines, which are hard limits that will not be included in the game. It also includes veils, soft limits which will either be mentioned but not described, or potentially fade to black scenes. Open door means that anyone can take a break for their own safety and well being without judgement.
