About the adventure

Graves are being emptied. Bodies are disappearing from crypts. Rumors of undead spread across the countryside, and no one can agree on what's happening or why. No one knows the cause. Some blame wild magic. Others whisper of forgotten relics that should have been left sleeping, others speak of a necromancer building an army, and still others dismiss the rumors and say its nothing more than thieves looking for easy money. Whatever the truth, someone has disturbed the dead and the consequences are only beginning. As your investigation unfolds, you'll find yourself caught in the fragile politics that hold Ashloft together. Kings, guilds, churches, and village councils all have their own interests and every decision you make may strengthen old alliances, forge new ones, or shatter them. This campaign will be heavy roleplay at the beginning, with meaningful choices. Early in the campaign you'll face a decision that will shape the rest of the story. Different choices lead to different allies, different enemies, and different futures for Ashloft. From there the world exists and events will be set in motion and how you choose to react to those events will determine what kind of campaign this becomes. This is a player-driven sandbox where your choices have lasting consequences. The world will continue to change whether you intervene or not, and there is no predetermined ending. Alliances, conflicts, and even the future of kingdoms will be shaped by the decisions you make.

About me

I have been playing Dungeons and Dragons since elementary school when I found my parents old Advanced Dungeons and Dragons books in a box hidden in my closet. I brought the books to school and forced my friends to spend recess pouring over them and learning to play. I have played and ran every edition of Dungeons and Dragons since then other than 5.5e (have not gotten a new group together6 since material started coming out.) I have also played and ran Pathfinder and played Vampire the Masquerade. I have experience playing both in person an virtually. I enjoy creating new worlds for my adventures to take place in that explore the unique impacts of living in a world where magic exists. Those new dynamics force you to really think about how the world works and makes the experience more immersive. Like for example what would it be like living in a world that has a recurring plague that affects magic users causing them to go catatonic but randomly cast spells until they finally explode? And what if Tieflings were immune? Would they be revered as healers who heroically brave the dangers to tend to those stricken, or feared as the cause of the plague? Something in between? I enjoy many play styles from dungeon crawls where nothing is more important than the next magic sword you get to loot, to heavy political intrigue that has you deciding the fate kingdoms without rolling initiative for 10 sessions at a time. I am excited to explore these new worlds as your tour guide!

Character creation

Creating your character

For this campaign we will be using the Dungeons and Dragons 5e (2014) version. Any official book released by Wizards of the Coast can be used for Character creation. We will be starting at level 5 using standard point buy and I will host a free session 0 and can assist with character creation. We will be playing on Foundry VTT and i will provide you with access to the world as soon as possible after sign up so that you can start building your characters if you feel comfortable. I am just starting to use to Foundry VTT and have not finished building all the wizards of coast content from my physical books yet so if there is an official Sub Class/race/background you want let me know and I will get it built for you. At Session 0 we will go over house rules and safety as well.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

We will be using Discord and Foundry VTT for play. After sign up i will get you your credentials to access my Foundry VTT server and get your Discord username to invite you to the server.

What kodie campbell brings to the table

I enjoy building worlds and thinking about the implications of how those worlds are different from our own. So you can expect a world that feels alive and thought out. Ultimately I want you to live in the world and feel like you belong to it so your choices are real and will have an impact on the story. I love roleplay heavy games, dungeon crawls and everything in between. This is intended to be a long term campaign. Full Disclosure: Generative AI was used as a random number generator to flesh out NPC traits, Names, and some descriptions. To me this no different than any of the random generators commonly used but allows me to have it take into account everything i have already written about a character or place and generate a cohesive character. I have Aphantasia which means that when I think i don't see pictures in my head. I see floating words in a black void... that if i really strain i can make arrange themselves into vaguely the shape of the thing i am thinking of. This makes creating visuals difficult so Generative AI was also used for my custom Artwork as well. But that being said please rest assured that the World, the Story, and the Characters that make it up are figments of my imagination and my responsibility.

Homebrew rules

1. Drinking a Potion is a bonus action 2. I do not keep track of basics such as arrows (unless those arrows are special such as +1 ammunition), rations, bed roll. etc. I have the opinion that your characters are adventures and are not going to leave town without what they need, will pickup/repair/craft ammunition etc. (If the storyline demands it this may be subject to change but notice will be given in time to stock up ahead of time) 3. I think the magic Item pricing in the DMG is wrong and use a modified price list. I will provide a spreadsheet that i have used as a starting place for determining pricing though even that is subject to change as i have not yet gone though every item listed yet. 4. Magic. In my world the standard Spells have be honed and refined to be able to be cast quickly and repeatedly. But just about anything is possible with magic and enough resources. Trying to accomplish something that is not a standard spell may take months of research, expensive components, precise alignment of the stars etc. so depending on what you are trying to do it might be impractical but certainly possible. 5. Flanking provides advantage 6. If you make multiple attacks as part of your action you can move between attacks 7. You always take the max amount possible on your Hit Die when increasing your hit point maximum.

Safety

How kodie campbell creates a safe table

At session 0 you will be able to fill out a consent form inside Foundry VTT that will allow you to choose your level of comfort with a large number of topics in order to determine what is off limits or needs further discussion. In addition the module used for this will allow you at anytime to throw a X-card that will stop all play immediately if things are going a way you are not comfortable with. We can take a break at any time for any reason or no reason. I will also dedicate time after each session you to give feedback as group or individually how ever you feel comfortable.
