About the adventure

Welcome to Silverymoon: Shieldfall! This original Dungeons & Dragons campaign unfolds in Silverymoon, the Gem of the North. Silverymoon is a legendary beacon of magic, culture, and learning. In beauty and power, the Silver City stands unrivaled across the northern lands. Every ten years, Silverymoon celebrates The Moonchosen Convergence. People from far and wide gather to join the revelry and witness wonders found only at the festival. However, this is no mere carnival! At its heart lies a contest whose importance reaches far beyond pomp and spectacle. Across the centuries, rising talents from many disciplines have become Moonchosen and competed in the Trials of the Convergence. This year, YOU have been invited to join their ranks. As the festival opens, the Moonchosen and the leaders of Silverymoon’s five factions gather atop the fabled Moonbridge. Above them floats the Lunareth Crystal, whose power has protected the city for centuries. With the eyes of the city upon you, you receive your first task! From here, the Trials will carry you across Silverymoon. Every choice and deed can earn you honor, glory, and a faction’s trust—or bring you shame and disgrace. Those who distinguished themselves have traditionally risen to positions of prestige and helped shape the Silver City’s future. Those who did not have simply faded into history. Beneath the bright pageantry, however, darkness looms. Bitter rivalries resurface, old secrets stir, and ominous shadows linger. Whispers of long-buried dangers can be heard in raucous taverns, back alleyways, grand halls, and even the city’s highest towers. Rumors speak of theft, blackmail, sabotage, and murder. Behind guarded doors, the factions seem to scheme against one another, yet proof of wrongdoing remains scarce. Amid this uncertainty, clues about forgotten temples, sealed archives, and ancient ruins coalesce around you. Again and again, the rumors return to three legendary incantations—Earth, Water, and Light. What it all means remains unclear, but the threads are woven too tightly to dismiss. Silverymoon: Shieldfall is designed for players who enjoy immersive storytelling, uncovering mysteries, and working together as a group. The campaign blends political intrigue, tactical combat, urban exploration, dungeon crawling, investigation, and heroic fantasy. Roleplay is central to the campaign; it shapes politics, investigations, alliances, and relationships with Silverymoon’s denizens. In short, your choices matter: factions remember your actions, your relationships reshape the narrative, and your decisions ripple throughout the world. Whether you are looking for challenging combat, intriguing puzzles, memorable characters, faction politics, or a rich fantasy world to explore, you will find it here! No prior knowledge of the Forgotten Realms is required. New and experienced players alike are welcome to step into the shadows beneath the Silver City.

Character creation

Creating your character

a. Optional Rules (5e): We generally use them(e.g., flanking). We are open to rule suggestions. b. Point Buy vs. Spread: --- Point buy: Use 29 points (not 27). **RECOMMENDED 15 is the max per stat. If you have a score at 8 or below, we need to discuss. --- Spread: 10, 10 , 12, 13, 14, 15. We hate the 8! c. General Character Creation Things: --- Waterdeep: Dragon Heist and Silverymoon: Shieldfall start at level 2. Other campaigns vary; See your DM. --- We do not use the standard, restrictive RACE +2/+1 ASI. Add your +2/+1 (or +1/+1/+1) wherever you see fit. --- Do not feel constrained by pre-set background descriptions/skills/tools/languages/etc. Change/add/remove whatever makes sense to your character's background to make it feel right. CUSTOMIZE to your heart's content. --- However, if you add more than 1-2 extra skills/tools/languages/etc., we need to approve (power scale). d. Items: --- Take any mundane rarity items your character CAN & WILL use; do not abuse this for gold. For example, if you can wear plate, take a set. --- Take two uncommon magic items OR one rare. Most items are fine, but we'll approve them. We are anti flying items. We are pro homebrew; go nuts and we will power scale it with you. --- Take two healing potions and 50 platinum. This will all take place before first session session 0 will be free

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Before the Game To get ready for Session 1, please complete the following steps: Create a free account on both Discord and Roll20 if you do not already have them. Join the campaign Discord server. Discord will be used for voice chat, announcements, and general discussion. Join the Roll20 campaign using the invitation link. Roll20 will be used for maps, combat, handouts, and character sheets. Create a Level 2 character using official D&D 5e material. Upload your character sheet, token, and portrait to Roll20 before Session 1. There will be a Session 0 before the campaign begins. During Session 0, we will discuss character creation, campaign expectations, rules, and answer any questions. Test your microphone and internet connection before game night. If you need help with character creation or setting up Roll20, just ask before the first session.

What Frank brings to the table

As your GM, I aim to create an immersive and collaborative experience where every player has a chance to shine. This campaign will feature a mix of roleplay, exploration, mystery, dungeon crawling, and tactical combat, with player choices helping shape the story and the future of Silverymoon. The game will include custom maps, handouts, faction quests, magical items, and unique encounters designed specifically for the campaign. Expect ancient ruins, political intrigue, dangerous enemies, and plenty of opportunities to interact with the world and its characters. Combat will be challenging and tactical, but creative solutions and clever ideas are always encouraged. While we will generally follow the rules of Dungeons & Dragons 5e, the Rule of Cool has its place when it creates memorable moments and keeps the game fun. Above all, this is a cooperative game. My goal is to provide a welcoming environment where players can tell an exciting story together, develop their characters, and enjoy a campaign filled with mystery, adventure, and unexpected twists.

Homebrew rules

Current House Rule (Cont.) e. Potions, Scrolls, Sigils, Tattoos, Upgrades, & Renown: --- Potions/scrolls are mostly standard. Healing potions can be used as an action (max hp healed) or bonus action (roll for heal). Mana potions exist; ask for details. --- There are tattoos & sigils that can be quite powerful. More info available later. --- Crafting approximates 5.5 rules (primarily Gold + Time). Tell us what you want & we'll advise. --- Magic items can be upgraded in certain shops. Ask for details. --- Renown matters. Interactions are often tracked. This OFTEN has consequences. f. The Honor System: --- For the integrity & fun of the game, play by the rules. Do not fudge rolls, add unearned advantages to your inventory, etc. --- That said, humans make mistakes. Maybe you forgot to add a book you found three sessions ago to your pack. Fix that small mistake. In the spirit of the game, you SHOULD HAVE that book! --- Arrows, spell components, rations, etc. should be in your inventory and tracked. However, do not sweat tracking perfectly. Instead, spend a few gold every week or two to represent keeping your quiver filled, food stores fresh, spell componets up to date, etc. --- However, certain expensive items, like those consumed for a spell, SHOULD be tracked. If the cost of a consumable is more than a gold here or there, track it. The big ones tend to be gems or Revivification, potions, and scrolls.. g. Critical Successes and Fails: We may apply these to all rolls (DMs discretion). h. (Heroic) Inspiration: When granted, you can add a 1d20 to ANY roll. Use these wisely. i. Mob Scaling: Some mobs have been changed drastically. Expect the unexpected!!!

Safety

How Frank creates a safe table

Player Safety & Comfort Creating a fun, welcoming, and respectful environment is important to me. This campaign is meant to be an enjoyable experience for everyone at the table, and player comfort will always come first. During Session 0, we will discuss campaign expectations, table etiquette, character creation, and any topics players would prefer to avoid. Open communication is encouraged, and players are always welcome to reach out privately if they have concerns or questions. We will be using the X-Card system throughout the campaign. Players may use the X-Card at any time, either verbally or through Discord, to indicate that they are uncomfortable with the current content. No explanation is required, and the game will move on without judgment. Feedback is always welcome before, during, and after sessions. My goal is to create a cooperative and enjoyable experience where everyone feels safe, respected, and excited to return to the table each week.
