About the adventure

A fresh start in Middle-earth with The One Ring 2e starter set. The adventure begins at The Prancing Pony in Bree, on the eve of the Fell Year. An Unexpected Party is being gathered - a company of adventurers bound by a common purpose. Journey through the Lone-lands, explore ruined keeps, and face the first shadows stirring in Eriador. This adventure introduces the unique Fellowship Phase system and journey-focused gameplay that makes The One Ring 2e a beloved system for Tolkien-inspired roleplaying. Perfect entry point for new and returning players. Pre-generated characters available, or create your own hero of Eriador - a Dwarf of the Blue Mountains, a Bard of the Dale-lands, a Woodman of Wilderland, or a Hobbit of the Shire.

Character creation

Creating your character

The One Ring 2e uses a culture-based character creation system. Players choose a Culture (Dwarf of the Blue Mountains, Bard of the Dale-lands, Woodman of Wilderland, Hobbit of the Shire, etc.) which determines starting skills, abilities, and equipment. Pre-generated characters from the Starter Set are available, or players may create their own. Starting Endurance and Hope determined by culture. All players begin as Level 1 heroes.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

No prior experience with The One Ring 2e required - a brief rules overview will be provided before Session Zero. If you are familiar with D&D 5e or other d20 systems, the transition is smooth. TOR2e uses a d12-based Feat die system with six-sided Success dice. Please read the free TOR2e Primer (available on Free League's website) before our first session.

Safety

How DM Yan creates a safe table

Session Zero establishes Lines and Veils collaboratively with all players. Safety tools available: X-Card (players may veto uncomfortable content at any time), open discussion for content boundaries, and debriefing after heavy sessions. The table follows a respectful, inclusive culture. Personal horror and dark themes are possible but always negotiated. The fellowship-based system emphasizes cooperation over PvP.
