About the adventure

Join the three characters that are the core of the survivor group working on bettering their Haven, as they decide what to explore first! ____________________________________________________________________ An asynchronous Play-by-Post sandbox campaign using Free League's The Walking Dead Universe RPG, played on Discord. Set in the series' official canon in northeast Georgia, just outside Atlanta. New players and veterans alike are welcome. Your survivor will always have a meaningful place in the story. The game world is a harsh post-apocalyptic place where society has collapsed and civilization has returned to the basics. A survival story where every meal, bullet, and medical supply matters—often more than fighting off the walkers. A horror setting where the dead never stop coming, but the living are often the greatest threat. A true sandbox campaign where your choices shape the story. A living metaplot keeps the world moving, but how your survivor faces it is entirely up to you. One post per day is preferred, but survivors can form groups based on posting pace, so no one is left waiting on other players. Character death is part of The Walking Dead. Thanks to the game's design, new survivors can join at any time without being overshadowed by long-running characters, both mechanically and narratively. Above all, a game to have fun together!

About me

American-born living in France since childhood (bilingual). IRL feature-film, video-game & series screenwriter. Started gaming with the old basic DnD. Played & GMed a lot of games (AD&D, Vampire, WFRP, Pathfinder & Starfinder...) and more recently The One Ring, Alien RPG & The Walking Dead (Free League). I am getting back to good old Vampire with the new VtM V6.

Character creation

Creating your character

Character creation is quick and easy, using the game's simple 10-step process. I will provide all the rules you need, guide you through every choice, and offer premade survivors for inspiration if you would like a starting point. As the campaign unfolds, you are always welcome to adjust your character to better match your playstyle or the needs of the group.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

All you need to play is a Discord account. The entire campaign will be run on our Discord server. Roll20 is optional, but you may use it for your character sheet and to access the rules through the Compendium. No gameplay will take place there. I will also share the rulebook through Google Docs.

What Eric C. brings to the table

The Walking Dead is a game of roleplaying, tense confrontations, and deadly combat. I run the game Rules as Written, so everyone shares a clear and fair foundation. My approach to the Rule of Cool is to use “No, but…” rather than simply saying “no.” I strive to be transparent and consistent in my rulings, while remaining open to adapting them when it makes the game more enjoyable for everyone at the table. If something is not working for you, please do not hesitate to let me know.

Homebrew rules

Homebrew rules will be kept to a minimum and will usually be inspired by mechanics from other Free League games using the Year Zero Engine. All homebrew rules will be clearly documented and shared with everyone. We start with just one: player characters receive a couple of extra Hit Points to give them a better chance of surviving a long-term campaign. The world remains just as deadly, but your survivor is less likely to die before their story has a chance to unfold.

Safety

How Eric C. creates a safe table

This is a game, and the goal is for everyone to enjoy themselves. I want this campaign to be safe, welcoming and respectful for every player. That said, this is The Walking Dead—a horror game. Like the comics and TV series, it may include violence, injury, death, walkers, amputations, and situations involving both animals and minors. Darkness and danger are part of the setting. This does not mean anything goes. Some subjects are hard Lines and will never appear in the game, including bigotry, racism, sexism, and sexual violence. If you have additional Lines, please let me know. We will also use Veils: subjects that may exist in the story but will fade to black rather than be described in detail. Because this is an asynchronous Play-by-Post campaign, everyone has time to read, think, and respond at their own pace. That naturally creates opportunities to pause, reflect, and raise any concerns. I also do my best to notice when someone seems uncomfortable, even if they have not said anything. If an issue arises, we will address it respectfully so everyone can continue enjoying the game.
