About the adventure

Set in the frozen north of Icewind Dale, this adventure blends urban conflict and dungeon delving with winter survival as you try and unravel the tangled plans of three mysterious factions, each trying to gain power within the Dale and Ten-Towns. Will you save a man from public execution, help a shopkeeper get his money back, or escort a merchant to the Dwarven Valley? Adapted for 5.5e, this D&D Next module has been updated with battle maps, new monster stats, and more fleshed out magic items. This adventure gives many opportunities for roleplay, combat, and exploration. The players are encouraged to be creative and try whatever methods they wish for solving problems. Both new and experienced players are welcome.

About me

I have been playing TTRPGs (mostly D&D) for over 25 years and regularly GMing for more than 15. I love seeing creativity and out-of-the-box thinking from my players. It's where I get the most joy being a game master. TTRPGs are my primary passion and favorite art form, especially with the recent addition of VTTs. I was recently diagnosed with ASD and ADHD, I am queer, and I enjoy drawing and reading. If you message me, please be patient and give me a day to respond. I'm a busy person and can't afford to live on this site.

Character creation

Creating your character

We will be holding a free Session Zero once we have a full party. There are premade characters that you are encouraged to pick from, that can be edited and personalized, though you may also make your own character from scratch. Characters are/will be made on Roll 20 using the following rules. - 2024 Rule Set, though 2014 content is allowed. - Using the 2014 Character sheets for simplicity and scripting purposes. - Published WotC content only (No 3rd Party or Homebrew) -- Exception: Adventure-specific Character Backgrounds - Character Level 1 - Ability Scores: Standard Array or Point Buy - Standard Starting Equipment from Class and Background

What to expect

Preparing for the session

You will need to have a Discord Account, a Roll20 Account, and a working microphone.

What Scott brings to the table

I am providing the adventure itself, some premade character options, the maps, and background music. I play the enemies as tactical and intelligent creatures that (under most circumstances) want to survive. I try to embrace the Rule of Cool and can give mechanical rulings when players want to try something wild, but because this is a full adventure and not a one-shot, I may have to give a few more negative or "just this once" rulings for consistency purposes. I do try to differentiate NPCs by tone and manner, but I do not do full "voices" very often.

Homebrew rules

Max HP: Players always gain the Maximum HP when leveling up. Flanking: Flanking grants Advantage to melee attacks Variable Success: Greater success grants benefits, greater failure incurs penalties, and near-misses can become success with a penalty.

Safety

How Scott creates a safe table

We will have a Lines and Veils document in game, as well as a Safety Deck that will display in Chat. If we need time to decompress there should be a chance for discussion after most sessions. This will be gone over during session zero.
