About the adventure

Beyond the Curse of Strahd: The Domains of Dread is a homebrew campaign set after the events of Curse of Strahd. The Vampire Lord has been defeated, his Dread Domain returned to the Forgotten Realms - but the other Darklords will note his absence, and the darkness that fuels them will have them seek to fill the void Strahd left behind. The campaign will use material from Ravenloft: The Horrors Within to allow players to explore 16 Domains of Dread, and battle against the wide variety of creatures and Darklords that fill them. Material will also be used from Monte Cooke's Arcana of the Ancients, bringing strange and fantastic creatures from the world of Numenera into play. This is a campaign for higher level players, starting at Level 12.

About me

I believe TTRPGs should be available to all, and that complicated rules shouldn't bar entry for a cool and fascinating new game - I am to make things as easy as possible for new and old players alike. The table should be a fun, comfortable and engaging place for EVERYONE involved - which is why I also do not compromise on safety tools. I like discovering new ways to use a system, homebrewing if necessary, or using the rules as given in new ways to make sure even experienced players in a system have something new to grapple with. I'm also a big fan of misdirection...so don't believe everything you see. It's a poor storyteller that you can trust entirely.

Character creation

Creating your character

Characters will be created on Roll20, starting at Level 12. Check in with the GM for any partnered or homebrew content you wish to use in your character creation.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Players will need to join Discord and Roll20 to be able to play the game, and have a working mic.

What Armaan brings to the table

As a GM, I provide maps and material from Ravenloft: The Horrors Within, as well as a few other supplements - notably, Arcana of the Ancients, which brings Numenera creatures and magic items into D&D. The campaign will follow a tone of horror, though graphic and gory details will be toned down. The creatures you face will be powerful, insidious, and determined to wreak havoc on the characters' minds and bodies. The type of horror that is explored will be discussed with players beforehand, to see what kinds they are interested in exploring - and what tones or tropes they wish to avoid. As a GM, I tweak the rules as necessary for the story - though importantly, any mechanical changes are kept consistent. A boon to you will also apply to enemies who can take the same advantages. That being said, the comfort of players is paramount: this is a game that's meant to be fun, and not vengeful against players who can't strategize for every rule.

Homebrew rules

One homebrew feature used is Ability Goals. Characters can gain new abilities or proficiencies by training for them in their downtime; the GM will set a target Goal, and possibly a sidequest, that must be attained before they can add the new ability to their character sheet. This ability can be something from a sourcebook, another class or subclass, or a new ability or spell worked through with the GM.

Safety

How Armaan creates a safe table

In Session 0, a Palette Grid will be made to keep track of topics and tones players would like to explore, and things they may wish to leave off the table. This Grid cannot cover all contingencies, however, so the X-Card is always in play: players can pause the game at any moment, retcon something they feel they do not want at the table, or step away from the game for a moment if they need to.
