About the adventure
A House Divided is a gothic mystery about legacy, grief, and the choices that define both. You’ll step into a decaying estate where old family oaths have curdled into secrets, every room remembers more than it should, and the broken people trapped within its shadow all want something different from you. Whether the house needs mercy, justice, truth, or ruin is yours to decide. This is a roleplay-first campaign, and character choice is the engine of the game. Expect tense conversations, difficult moral decisions, investigation, faction pressure, and quiet in-character moments that can matter just as much as any battle. You’ll spend much of your time talking with NPCs, uncovering secrets, weighing imperfect options, and living with the consequences of what you choose. The NPCs in this campaign are vivid, reactive, and deeply tied to the story. Earn their trust and doors may open. Threaten, deceive, or neglect them and those same doors may close. Rival factions want different outcomes, and there are no clean heroes or obvious villains here—only people shaped by loss, loyalty, fear, ambition, and the choices you make in response. Your decisions reshape relationships, alter what paths remain possible, and steer the campaign toward one of several very different endings. Combat is not the default, and not every session will end with a fight. Violence is treated as a meaningful choice, not a routine checkpoint. But when steel is drawn, the danger is real. Battles are tactically challenging, tied directly to the narrative, and built to test your teamwork. Terrain, positioning, resources, and preparation matter. Some encounters may be better outthought, avoided, negotiated, or survived rather than charged head-on. Victory is earned, careless mistakes have consequences, and character death is possible. This game is for players who love deep roleplay, mystery, moral gray areas, lasting consequences, and meaningful character interaction. New and experienced players are equally welcome, as long as you’re ready to engage with the world, the people in it, and the hard decisions placed in front of you. Built for D&D 5e, levels 5–9, this is a gothic-flavored campaign of atmosphere, intrigue, and dangerous choices—not gore, cheap shocks, or horror-movie jump scares. The house has been waiting. The question is what you’ll leave behind when you’re done with it.

Creating your character
Character creation happens at Session 0, as a group, so we can balance the party and tie everyone into the story. Come in with a concept in mind—class, vibe, a backstory hook—nothing finalized, just don't show up blank. Level: 5 System: D&D 5e (2024 revised rules) — all official content allowed Ability scores: Point Buy HP: Fixed/average, rounded up Where: Built and maintained on Foundry VTT (no experience needed—I'll walk you through it) Newer to 5e or Foundry? No problem. Bring your idea and I'll handle the rest.

How Josh creates a safe table
Before we begin, I check in with each player to set expectations and discuss any topics you'd like to avoid. I do not roleplay sexual violence or torture under any circumstances. If anything ever makes you uncomfortable—during or between sessions—you’re always welcome to reach out. The whole point of this is to have fun.
