About the adventure
Imagine New York in 1934, during the Great Depression. Add in moody dark nights and constant rain, tobacco smoke everywhere, criminals controlling the corrupt government officials. This is the backdrop for the game, as inspired by film noir tropes. You will discover that there is more to the misery experienced by the city's inhabitants - there is monsters, actively making things worse. You will be given strange powers which allow you to contend with their dark presence and you will do just that. You will have to tread carefully or risk swift death. What you could go up against varies and depends on a conversation we will have the first time we talk during session zero. I love adjusting to what my players get excited about and what they want to avoid. Will we uncover a monstrous manipulator profiting from the economic collapse? Will we hold back a tide of risen dead? Will we get hounded by the police? Will we participate in their corruption? Let's find out together!

About me
I have lived in 4 different countries throughout my life and like bringing this mixture of cultures and languages into my games. I enjoy blending different kinds of stories in my games. I get excited when players bring their own backgrounds and cultural experiences to the table, especially if I am unfamiliar with them. I got started running games at the age of 9 and tried a multitude of systems over the years. I love learning by challenging myself with a new kind of game or a new set of rules so I can bring forward clever lessons and mechanics into future play.

Creating your character
We will create characters together during session zero, based entirely on the core rulebook. You do not need to own the core rulebook, I will walk you through it, provide reference material and give you ample information on what your choices mean. If you wish to prepare to create a character, please imagine who your character might be before they become a hunter, as simply a human. The resulting ties persist after the imbuing. Additionally, you could think about how your character might react to the presence of the supernatural - do they wish to strike it down, do they wish to understand, do they hope to find a kernel of goodness in the wicked before them? The only constant is this: you have to play someone who will act on their newfound knowledge.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Please create a discord account if you don't have one already. You will need to join a server which we will use for play and communication about the game outside of sessions. We will be using roll20 for character sheets. You may also use the site for rolling digital dice. You will need an account to use it. The link to the game will be distributed before session zero. I will be on camera and I encourage everyone to do the same. While not necessary, I find it helpful to have a presence in a call other than just a voice. PNGTuber personas are a great option as well. I will reiterate however: this is only an encouragement, I will never force anyone to show their face.
What Tomasz | SnowChickenLord brings to the table
Handouts for character creation, character advancement, knowledge, willingness to change and experiment. I am a GM who loves integrating player ideas into the world. You will get many opportunities to add to the game world. Additionally, I always attempt to give players ways for their choices to genuinely affect their surroundings. Combat is quick, deadly and should be approached in as controlled a situation as you can manage. It is an inevitable part of the game but it is incredibly risky - you are but a human while your opposition is often something much more powerful. You will get to hear me talk using different character voices and there is going to be optional music if you wish to listen to some jazz to get you in the right headspace while we play.
Homebrew rules
- Alternative initiative: Storyteller says what will happen if you do nothing, you say what you do freely between players. If exact order is important or if a character is surprised, roll dexterity to act before the opposition. - Perception for firearms: instead of using Dexterity, we use Perception for shooting guns - Conviction triggers: at the end of each session, you will answer a few questions and gain Conviction based on this. The questions incentivize playing to type and getting into trouble by doing so. - I know a...: you may use social backgrounds to attempt to summon a new character into the fiction. If you succeed, you get who you want. If you fail, they might still show up but something makes your relationship complicated.

How Tomasz | SnowChickenLord creates a safe table
We will meet for a free session zero to discuss topics related to comfort and expectations. During session zero, we will create a list of Lines and Veils. I like doing this in a freeform manner, with a small list of specific topics I will ask about explicitly. We will take breaks as is needed. At the end of each session we will go through Stars and Wishes to steer the game towards a better experience suited better to the specific group.
