About the adventure
In 19th-century Sweden, industrial progress clashes with ancient folklore. While cities embrace steam and science, the dark forests and mountains harbor the ancient Vaesen. As members of the Society, you possess "the Sight." You alone can see the spirits others mistake for superstition. The Lost Mountain Saga is an epic campaign of social intrigue and gritty horror. You will journey from Upsala’s streets to the frozen Abisko mines. The mystery is deep and the stakes are personal. It is perfect for players who love historical atmosphere and grand conspiracies. Your character must manage physical injuries and mental trauma. Gameplay balances careful investigation with dangerous supernatural confrontations. Success requires ingenuity and lore, not just force. Join the Society and uncover what lies beneath the Lost Mountain.

Creating your character
Character creation for our campaign is flexible and designed to get you into the story quickly. You can create your character in advance on our Discord channel, which usually takes about 30 minutes. If you prefer, you can use our "staged approach" at the start of the first session; simply show up and choose an archetype, name, and age, and we will flesh out the details together as we play. We will use Google Sheets for all characters. Please refer to the Vaesen: Nordic Horror Roleplaying core book for character options. Focus on building a person with a clear motivation and a reason for being part of the Society. I will be available to help you create your character, and define your character's dark secret and history. Final character adjustments will be made during Session Zero to ensure the party feels right.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Join the Campaign Discord Channel. This is the hub for lore, rules discussion, and out-of-game updates. If you'd like to pop in now, take a look, check out the rules, and ask me some questions before you sign up, then please do. https://discord.gg/DH9bdYzj Download the Vaesen Rules Link provided on signup. No knowledge of the rules is necessary to play. This is not a complex system, and you'll be at home with it right away. Create a Let's Role Account. We will use Let’s Role as our virtual tabletop. It is a very lightweight VTT, which we will use only for sketching maps (where need), providing images, and for rolling dice. We'll be most in the theatre of the mind. https://lets-role.com While Let's Roll can be run on mobile, a desktop or laptop is preferable, the larger the screen, the better for you viewing maps and bits and pieces. The campaign link will be provided to you once you join. Set up Zoom. Our sessions run on Zoom. A dedicated private link will be sent to you privately before the session begins. Hardware. You will need a good quality microphone and a decent internet connection. Regarding video, I will always use it as a GM so you will see me; however, whether you use yours or not is entirely up to you if it makes you feel more comfortable. This setup does not require a high-powered PC.
What Wayland brings to the table
I will provide the Vaesen PDF Ruleset via a private Dropbox link. There will also be a Google Character Sheet provided. For those who prefer the traditional feel of paper and pencil locally, you may print a character sheet to play. Our sessions are held on Zoom, and the private link will be sent to you directly. Between sessions, our dedicated Discord channel serves as our community hub to discuss rules, clarify mechanics, and discuss the dynamics of the game. You do not need to be familiar with the Vaesen system. In fact, you don't even have to have ever played a roleplaying game before! I will be more than happy to guide you. The rules are lightweight and intuitive. My goal is to keep the game fast-flowing and immersive, ensuring the rules never get in the way of the drama.

How Wayland creates a safe table
If anyone ever feels uncomfortable, highlight it to me immediately and it will be handled as a priority. PVP (Player vs. Player) conflict is avoided to maintain a healthy dynamic at the table. Open Communication: I keep an eye on private message channels throughout the session. If something makes you uncomfortable as the game is in progress, message me privately and I will address it. Breaks and Aftercare: We take a short break during the session. I will always be available during that time if you need to speak quickly about any concerns. Community Discussion: Our Discord channel has dedicated areas to discuss the game and address anything that caused concern during play. Important Note: It is vital to remember that this is a fantasy world. Nothing depicted or portrayed in the game reflects my personal feelings or beliefs; we are inhabiting a fictional setting to explore its stories together.
