About the adventure

Welcome to Barovia, a land of cold mist, silent roads, and shadows that seem to breathe. This adventure begins with *Death House*, a gothic horror introduction to *Curse of Strahd*, where the players are drawn into a haunted mansion filled with secrets, tragedy, and things that should have stayed buried. This game is perfect for players who enjoy mystery, horror atmosphere, roleplay, and meaningful choices. You do not need to be a D&D expert to join—beginners are welcome, and I will help guide you through the rules as we play. The focus is not only fighting monsters, but also exploring creepy locations, solving mysteries, interacting with strange characters, and deciding what kind of heroes you want to become. My style is cinematic, story-driven, and character-focused. I like building tension slowly, giving every player a moment to shine, and creating a table where choices matter. Expect dark fantasy, haunted rooms, moral questions, dangerous encounters, and moments where the scariest thing is not always the monster in front of you.

About me

I’m a storyteller, world-builder, and Game Master with years of experience running both published adventures and custom campaigns. My GM style blends atmosphere, character-driven moments, and tactical challenge. I believe every session should feel like stepping into another world, whether that means a tense investigation in candlelight, a desperate fight in a ruined cathedral, or a quiet roleplay moment that changes a character’s fate forever.

Character creation

Creating your character

Characters will be created before the session, but I am happy to help new players through the process. Please make a Level 1 character using official D&D 5e character options. Stats can be decided using Standard Array or Point Buy. Characters can be created on D&D Beyond, a fillable character sheet, or another character builder you are comfortable with. If you are new, I can provide simple guidance or a pre-generated character so you can jump into the game more easily. Allowed sources: official D&D 5e player options such as the Player’s Handbook, Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything, and Xanathar’s Guide to Everything. Homebrew or third-party content should be discussed with me first. Since this is a gothic horror adventure, I recommend creating a character who is willing to explore danger, cooperate with the party, and take the story seriously.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Before the game, please prepare the following: 1. Join the Discord server/link provided after booking. We will use Discord for voice chat. 2. Create a free **Roll20 account** before the session. We will use Roll20 for the virtual tabletop. 3. Make sure your microphone works clearly before the session. 4. Create a Level 1 D&D 5e character before the game, or message me if you need help or want a pre-generated character. 5. Have your character sheet ready on D&D Beyond, PDF, Roll20, or another character sheet format. 6. Bring a cooperative attitude and be ready for gothic horror, mystery, roleplay, and dangerous choices. New players are welcome. If this is your first time playing D&D, I will help you understand the rules during the game.

What Pierre Katuhe brings to the table

I will provide a prepared Roll20 game with maps, tokens, handouts, and visual aids to help bring Barovia and Death House to life. I will also provide Discord voice chat, guidance for new players, and optional pre-generated characters if you need help getting started. My GM style is cinematic, atmospheric, and story-driven. I use ambient music, descriptive narration, character voices when appropriate, and slow-building tension to create a gothic horror feeling. I want the game to feel dangerous and mysterious, but still fun and welcoming for everyone at the table. Rules-wise, I aim for a fair balance between Rules as Written and the Rule of Cool. I respect the rules, but I also want creative player ideas to matter. Expect roleplay, exploration, mystery, meaningful choices, and combat that feels tense rather than random.

Safety

How Pierre Katuhe creates a safe table

Because this is a gothic horror game, player comfort and safety are important. Before the game begins, I will ask players to share any Lines and Veils privately if there are topics they want completely avoided or kept off-screen. Players can message me before the session or during a break if something feels uncomfortable. At the start of the session, I will quickly explain the tone of the adventure and remind everyone that the table should stay respectful and cooperative. We will use simple safety tools: players can say “pause,” message me privately, or ask to fade to black if a scene becomes too much. No one has to explain personal reasons. This game may include horror, haunted houses, death, danger, disturbing family history, and supernatural themes, but I will avoid graphic descriptions of extreme violence or anything players have marked as off-limits. My goal is to create tension and fear in a fun, safe way—not to make players genuinely uncomfortable. After intense scenes, I check in with the group, give space for a quick break if needed, and make sure everyone is okay before moving forward. Players are always welcome to talk to me after the game if they have feedback or concerns.
