About the adventure

Modern Day Urban Fantasy Roleplaying - 🎭 Roleplay Heavy - 🏛️ Political Intrigue - 🧟 Corruption Mechanics Urban Shadows fulfills the fantasy of running a World of Darkness campaign with every book mixed together. Whether you are a human or a monster, you are racing to accomplish your goals before you become one of the corrupt bastards you're fighting against. Anchorage is a city with long summer days and long winter nights; small enough to only have a single 24-hour Emergency Room, large enough for people to go missing without dominating the town gossip. A perfect stomping ground for those looking to escape the suffocating social machinations of the big cities and feed in peace. This game has a heavy emphasis on political intrigue, but it will avoid real world US Federal Politics. The Player Characters are all connected to each other, but not necessarily a party. PvP is a possibility, so long as it stays strictly in character and all the players are eager to see it play out.

About me

I was first introduced to D&D 3rd Edition as a child and never stopped playing games. As someone who also enjoys board games and video games, I've found that different TTRPGs scratch different itches. My favorite games right now are Pathfinder 2e and basically anything Powered by the Apocalypse - games that support radically different play styles.

Character creation

Creating your character

Character Creation happens during the session zero. Before the game starts you will have a chance to look over the available Character Archetypes, but finalizing the selection and answering the worldbuilding questions is a collaborative process that needs to be done as a group.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Make sure you have the a Discord and Roll20 account. The Discord is where I can share the player materials and directly answer questions you may have. The Discord Server is a space meant to facilitate StartPlaying hosted games, so the Code of Conduct applies. If you have any questions feel free to send a message through Start Playing.

What Scott brings to the table

This game will be "Rules as Written" but there also aren't very many of them. The rules that do exist are flexible and rely heavily on table consensus. What exactly is the limit of "Extend your senses, supernatural or otherwise"? This is left intentionally vague so every table can find a line that works for them. This game has a "Master of Ceremonies" instead of a "Game Master" and in that spirit I act more as a facilitator than an adversary. My role is to keep The Conversation going when it begins to falter, to help arrange scenes and end them when they are starting to peter out.

Safety

How Scott creates a safe table

Before the start of the first session, an anonymized Google Doc will be linked where players can add Lines and Veils, content that is strictly off-limits for the game or things we would like to keep "off camera". The X, N, & O's can be sent through Discord or the VTT during play, and every session will end with Stars & Wishes - a chance to verbalize what everybody would like to see more or less of moving forward.
