Deadbeat Dungeoneers | Torchbearer 2E [beginners welcome]

Has it really come to this? Crawling in dank dungeons for spare coin? Maybe we can take this old wizard’s quest—what's the worst that could happen?!

About the adventure

If you always wanted to play deadbeat adventurers making bad business and getting embroiled in world-shaking events, this is your chance! You will start your campaign in the remote county of Darkovia, working for shady wizards, recovering dangerous artifacts, fighting vampires, werewolves and ghosts just to earn a (dis)honest paycheck. You will journey across the heartlands of Feudor, the greatest kingdom of Ventûria, and try your luck in the big city—navigating the labyrinthine streets of Hywater in search for a solid gig as an ancient evil threatens to destroy the world! You may not be the heroes the realm wants, but you're definitely the heroes the realm deserves. The Chimera Skull Rattle is a Torchbearer campaign set in the world of Ventûria, a kitchen sink fantasy setting that mixes danger and humor, with a slight parody bent in the tradition of Discworld's Discworld, Fafhrd & The Grey Mouser's Newhon or Divinity: Original Sin's Rivellon.

About me

Hi, my name is Duamn, I'm an Argentinian artist, TTRPG designer and forever GM. With two decades of playing RPGs, I've run dozens of games, met a myriad of players, organized gaming clubs, hosted TTRPG events, illustrated and designed games both for myself and for publishers. If there's one thing to know about me, it's that I hold a deep love for RPGs. You can count on me to teach newcomers how to play, run consistent long-term campaigns, and harness the RPG medium to tell unique stories. You can find my games at https://mrdrhobo.itch.io/ Some of my art at https://www.instagram.com/duamnnfr/ And my GMing here, at StartPlaying.games!

Character creation

Creating your character

Character creation follows the rules as described in the Torchbearer 2nd Edition Dungeoneer's Handbook, plus additional options from the Loremaster's Manual. We will be using the character sheets provided by Roll20.

The current party

We pitch and coordinate characters at the Discord server. I will guide newcomers to the system every step of the way.

What Duamn brings to the table

Torchbearer is a tough game, focused on down-on-their luck adventurers, the challenges they face while dungeon crawling and the troubles of being outlaws within the city walls: a game where sidestepping combat and packing extra rations is always the best choice. The series of adventures we will be playing are published by Mordite Press, which contrasts the harsh adventuring life with a world of parody and humor. This creates a great environment of tough challenges met with levity: when the dice fail you, you can be sure we all be rolling with laughter. When the dice grant you success, we will celebrate a well-earned victory.
