About the adventure

You have been hired to find a shipwreck on a jungle island. Simple job, right? Sail in, grab what is worth stealing, sail out rich. Unfortunately, this is the Dark Caribbean, so nothing is ever that clean. In Trapped in the Tropics, your crew will be thrown into a fast, dangerous Pirate Borg adventure full of jungle exploration, cursed treasure, undead horrors, rival pirates, British Redcoats, bad choices, and whatever terrible plan the crew comes up with next. This is a short campaign, expected to run about 3–5 sessions, making it a great way to try Pirate Borg without committing to a year-long game. This game is for players who want something rules-light, chaotic, cinematic, and a little unhinged. Pirate Borg is easy to learn, deadly in the best way, and built for players who like bold choices over perfect plans. New players are welcome. You do not need to know the system before we play. My table style is flexible and player-driven. I will keep the game moving, explain rules as we go, and give the crew room to make their own trouble. Expect action, roleplay, exploration, horror, dark humor, and consequences. The world is dangerous, but the goal is always for everyone to have a great time telling a messy pirate story together. If you want a polished heroic fantasy campaign where everyone survives because the plot needs them to, this probably is not that. If you want a cursed island, a desperate crew, questionable decisions, and the chance to become legends or corpses, welcome aboard.

About me

My first experience with TTRPGs was a doomed Tomb of Annihilation campaign almost 10 years ago where in the first session I accidentally killed an important NPC. Since then I have played and run many more games of DnD and have explored various other TTRPG systems. One of my favorite new systems is Pirate Borg, a rules-light system centered around pirates in a alternate version of the Caribbean. I've run games for friends in person and online, at cons and at my local games store. Through that I have meet many new people and made new friends. I like creating stories to immersion the players in a open sandbox world, giving the players options and freedom to explore.

Character creation

Creating your character

We will spend the first 15–30 minutes going over the basic rules and creating characters together. Pirate Borg is fast to learn, and the VTT will handle character rolling with player input, so no one needs to show up with a finished character ahead of time. Players are welcome to come in with a rough idea for their backstory and look — something like "reckless deckhand," "ex-privateer," "washed-up sailor," "knife-happy scoundrel," or "pirate who is definitely not crazy" — but we will build the actual characters together at the table.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

We will use Discord for voice and table communication. An invite link will be sent before the game. No other programs or accounts are needed — you do not need to own Foundry VTT or make an account. I will simply send you a link to join the table. Familiarity with Foundry is welcome but not required. If you are new to Foundry or Pirate Borg, that is completely fine. I will help everyone get settled before we start.

What RustySnail brings to the table

I bring a fully prepared FoundryVTT experience, equipped with maps, music, animations, tokens and sound effects and use third party and custom modules to help enhance the experience and allow us to focus on crafting the story. I provide a safe and friendly environment for new and experienced players. I provide all necessary source books in digital formats.

Safety

How RustySnail creates a safe table

Pirate Borg is dark, violent, strange, and often ridiculous, but everyone at the table should still feel comfortable and respected. We will begin with a short Session 0-style check-in before play to go over tone, expectations, boundaries, and any content players want avoided or kept off-screen. I use an open-door approach: players can step away, message me privately, or ask for a pause at any time. If something at the table is not working, we will adjust. The goal is a dangerous game world, not to make anyone uncomfortable.
