About the adventure
As the party is on their way to the small town of Phandalin to deliver some supplies for a merchant and miner by the name of Gundran Rockseeker, they come upon a gruesome scene; two dead horses and a broken wagon in the middle of the road. From there, the adventurers find themselves embroiled in a villains web as they learn more about an almost forgotten forge from a time long ago. The Lost Mine of Phandelver was and is a fantastic adventure that I enjoyed running multiple times in 5e. This is my conversion into Shadowdark of this fun and action packed adventure, keeping the story intact but utilizing the Shadowdark system for a slightly more OSR feel. Whether you are new to the story and/or system, or have played LMoP before and want to try it in a new system, I welcome you!

About me
I've been DMing and playing for 30+ years. The first game I ever learned to play was a gamed called Bushido, and the first system I learned to run was L5R 1e, followed by AD&D 2e. I continued through with 3e and while I have ran multiple other systems, D&D was always my "home" system. I want to provide as much visual and audio immersion as I can, but I'm not an artistic person. VTT's are perfect for me to provide the kind of visual experience I want and I have found that Foundry has been the best suited to do so for me thus far. I came to enjoy running Pathfinder 2e a lot a few years ago. I stepped away from it and chose to run 5e out of convenience and at the time, my group wasn't enjoying PF2e. I've recently come back to it, and it's been a blast. It is now my primary system, and I am also enjoying working with the Starfinder 2e playtest material.

Creating your character
Character creation can be done via the shadowdarklings.net website or within Foundry itself. In the former case, you'll need to submit your exported character to me so I can import it. There are restrictions, which you will be able to read over once you are in the Discord server for this game.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
We use discord for voice chat, and I will provide a link to join after some initial questions are answered. I would expect at least a basic understanding of the rules before "sitting" at the table. Questions are always welcome.
What Nick brings to the table
I provide both a good visual and audio experience via maps and ambient music, as well as a few modules for quality of life.
Homebrew rules
In general we will stick to the rules as written, with pulling from 5e in various situations as most if not all of the Actions from 5e work perfectly well in Shadowdark. (for example: there's no rule for delaying your turn, but I allow using the Delay mechanic from 5e). There will be some homebrew content allowed, which you'll be able to look over once you are in the Discord server. I try my best to make sure we use well designed maps, utilize Foundry for animations and vision, as well as music for both ambience and combat. Here are the following variant rules from Shadowdark itself that we will be using: Pulp Mode: • There are no maximum luck tokens a player can have. • Players start every session with 1d4 luck tokens. • You can use a luck token to turn a hit into a critical hit. • You can use a luck token to take an extra action. • You can use a luck token to force the GM to reroll a roll. Hunter Mode: • Defeated monsters grant XP equal to half their level (round down). We will be using the Hexploration Rules from the pre-release Cursed Scroll #4, the ones that were removed in the full release. I find they added a good layer for traveling. I have some Homebrew rules for Retainers/Hirelings that I will share with players in my Discord. Lastly, I do not utilize the loot/xp rules. I feel they are too abstract and were a poor conversion from the OSR days where 1gp = 1xp. XP is still awarded for substantial treasure (magic items, a dragon's hoard, etc), just not for mundane stuff like coins/gems etc, which is why I'm utilizing Hunter Mode. Carousing is still an option to spend money on after a return from adventuring.

How Nick creates a safe table
I try to take a break midway through playing, in order for people to stretch their legs, get a drink, etc. Sometimes it happens later or not at all, but players are encouraged to do those things at anytime they need to. In fact, I use a module that has a button to easily notify me that they've stepped away for a moment. I always encourage players to bring up any concerns or issues they have with the group and/or other players with me or said person. We're all adults and should be able to have a conversation if something is bothering us.
