About the adventure

The campaign takes place in an primarily urban environment, with a generally gritty tone. Think heavy-handed but corrupt guards, intractible bureaucrats, and multiple guilds constantly plotting against one another. While the game will be very accessible to those new to DnD, there will be some emphasis on tactical and strategic thinking especially when dealing with the various plots and plans that the players will interact with.

About me

I have over 10 years experience casually DMing games, primarily 3.5e DnD. I have recently started DMing 5th edition, and find it pretty interesting. I have a range of experience with different systems from White Wolf, to D20, to Advanced DnD, to Hawkmoon, to Paranoia, Avatar (PbtA), to... I like games.

Character creation

Creating your character

Character creation should happen prior to our first session, ideally in communication with me. Stats will be point-buy or array, and characters should be created at level 1. If a player would like to use material from something other than the Players' Handbook or Dungeonmasters' Guide, plus run it past me first as I may not have the relevant book. Character creation is something I'm happy to facilitate for new players separately from the booked gaming session.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

I will primarily be using Discord and/or Google Meet for playing the game, so ensure you can access both of those prior to the first session. I have a Discord server I will send an invitation to once attendance is confirmed.

What Brian Lynchehaun brings to the table

I try to characterise the various people in the game as best I can (I'm not an actor), and I make an effort to be as descriptive as is helpful both in and outside combat. A mere "you hit/miss" is pretty boring, so I try to broaden the scope of what the dice roll actually means visually/viscerally. I consider both transparency and fairness to be key to a good game, so I tend to adhere fairly strictly to the rules as written (I'm pretty flexible on merely flavouring things, but the mechanics are what they are).

Homebrew rules

Unless the players want to discuss something specific ahead of time, I don't use any homebrew rules.
