About the adventure
The Crownlight Theater is hosting its final midnight screening before demolition. You came for nostalgia, cheap popcorn, and one last look at a local landmark before the wrecking crews move in. Then the lights cut out. The exits lock. A terrified projectionist staggers into the lobby clutching a cracked film canister and whispers: “They’re not here for us. They’re here for what’s on the reel.” A moment later, someone in a fake fire-safety jacket shoots the security cameras. The movie has already started. The Final Showing is a fast, cinematic thriller one-shot for 5dRPG, a tabletop RPG about big scenes, dangerous choices, emotional pressure, and heroes who can usually succeed if they are willing to burn something for it. You are ordinary cinematic protagonists trapped inside a collapsing situation: a locked-down theater, a hidden reel, a panicked witness, armed fixers, old secrets, and a fire that may not stay metaphorical for long. You will investigate the theater, calm or pressure witnesses, sneak through dark back halls, protect civilians, recover evidence, and confront the people trying to erase the truth before it reaches the screen. This session is beginner-friendly and built to teach the game as we play. No prior experience with 5dRPG is required. Pregenerated characters are provided, each built around a clear movie-role fantasy: the frontline protector, the stealth specialist, the emotional leader, the technical fixer, the wildcard, the strategist, and more. Expect: grounded action-thriller energy light horror atmosphere investigation, social tension, stealth, and confrontation cinematic problem-solving instead of tactical grid combat fast character selection rules taught at the table a complete story in about two hours No magic. No superheroes. No homework. Just one theater, one hidden truth, and one last chance to make sure the final showing does not become a cover-up.

About me
I've been writing campaigns and creating universes for over 25 years, and running events professionally for more than ten mostly in the Denver area. I've since moved, so now I'm trying to break into the world of online gaming. I believe in group storytelling and letting all RP styles shine. To me, RPG games are meant to be fun and engaging, so that's what I go for when I'm running adventures. I'm known for my memorable set piece battles, and my creative and engaging plot lines. Some of my favorite campaigns are Unexpectables, Role with Me, and of course Critical Role. I have several homebrew campaigns ranging from high fantasy, low fantasy, to space opera, to cyberpunk and modern. Plus one that's MST3K meets Quantum Leap. I can also run any of the official 5E books (I especially love Barovia/Ravenloft and will gladly run it). I have a demo reel of my high fantasy campaign if you'd like to know what you're getting in to.

Creating your character
While you are more than welcome to work with me to create your own character, I've provided 8 pregen characters for everyone to chose from at the beginning of the session. The 5dRPG Starter Cast gives players eight ready-to-play cinematic heroes, each built to show off a different part of the system. Pick the character whose movie sounds fun, grab their cards, and jump straight into the scene. Daniel Mercer is The Wall: a former high school football coach turned private security. He protects exits, blocks threats, holds doors, and puts himself between danger and everyone else. Teresa Alvarez is The Fixer: a city permit expediter with forms, favors, contacts, and “temporary” workarounds. She turns locked doors, missing tools, and bureaucratic friction into solvable problems. Malcolm Reed is The Ghost: a quiet operator who knows staff doors, overlooked routes, and places nobody is watching. He sneaks, scouts, slips through service paths, and brings back useful Secrets. Elaine Porter is The Face: a performer and public-pressure specialist who can make a room look, listen, and believe. She builds Trust, redirects attention, steadies crowds, and makes emotional turns land. Victor Sloane is The Analyst: a suspicious investigator who connects details other people dismiss. He finds contradictions, spends Secrets, asks sharp questions, and turns evidence into leverage. Jasmine Okafor is The Scrapper: fast, physical, improvisational, and hard to pin down. She moves first, uses objects, crosses hazards, shoves trouble around, and thrives when scenes get messy. Priya Nair is The Medic: a crisis stabilizer who keeps people alive, calm, and moving when everything starts to break. She reduces Stress, protects the vulnerable, and turns panic into action. Everett Shaw is The Commander: a coordinator who turns chaos into routes, roles, and plans. He names the objective, creates Setup, directs the team, and helps everyone cash in when pressure rises. Together, the Starter Cast covers protection, access, stealth, social pressure, investigation, mobility, recovery, and team coordination — everything a table needs to start the movie fast.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
We'll be playing on Discord. I have a server set up already for playtesting.
What AlEcyler brings to the table
5dRPG is a cinematic movie experience, so expect to have some awesome spotlight scenes. We very much embrace Rule of Cool. But don't expect simply combat, there will be plenty of mystery and intregue and social encoutners as well as investigation mechanics to uncover what's really happening. I'll have ambient music and voice acting as we learn and playtest this new system, along with plenty of scene setting images to help you get into the movie.
Homebrew rules
We will be running 5dRPG, which is itself currently a homebrew system. The Rough Cut Core document is published and available for free. Familiarity with the rules is encouraged, but by no means required.
