About the adventure

This is Act 1 of Curse of Strahd, rebuilt for the 2024 rules and run on a fully kitted Foundry VTT β€” the way gothic horror is meant to be played. We start in Death House, travel through the village of Barovia, and end at the gates of Vallaki. 8-10 sessions of slow dread, sharp combat, and a vampire lord who reads your weaknesses before you do. Loved Act 1? Act 2 picks up the same characters in Vallaki. **Why this table is different** I've been running tabletop games since 1981 β€” that's 45 years behind the screen. I write for the DMs Guild. I'm neurodivergent. My table's superpowers are inclusion, atmosphere, and knowing when Rule of Cool beats Rules as Written. Every verified review on my profile is 5 stars. **πŸ¦‡ What you'll get at this table** - **Foundry VTT premium stack** β€” full 2024 SRD automation, clean combat workflows, dynamic lighting so the mists actually move. - **Live ambient soundscapes** β€” bells, wolves, rain on rotting wood. Different room, different audio. - **Custom NPC portraits** for everyone you meet in Barovia, locked to a consistent painterly style. - **Voiced NPCs** with distinct cadence. Strahd doesn't sound like Ireena. - **Combat that respects your sheet** β€” fair, lethal, with tactical positioning that matters. **πŸ¦‡ When this game runs** Mondays, 12:00 PM Brisbane β€” which is Sunday 10:00 PM US Eastern, Sunday 7:00 PM US Pacific. 3 hours per session. **πŸ¦‡ Safety at the table** Session 0 covers lines, veils, and what's on or off the table. Open Door policy throughout. Stars & Wishes at the end of each session. These tools aren't emergency-only β€” they're how good tables stay good. **πŸ¦‡ Who thrives here** - Players who want gothic dread, not jump-scare horror - Returning players who want a high-production re-entry - Total beginners β€” I'll teach you the rules at your pace - Anyone who wants a vampire lord who feels like a real threat **Session 1 launches the moment 4 seats fill.** Book now to lock your character and get the Session 0 welcome pack within 24 hours.

Character creation

Creating your character

Two paths, your choice: OPTION 1 β€” Pre-Generated Characters (recommended for beginners) I provide fully-built level 1 characters covering the classic D&D roles. Show up, pick the hero who calls to you, ready to play. OPTION 2 β€” Build Your Own Standard rules apply: Standard Array or Point Buy, starting level 1, 2024 Player's Handbook content (2014 fine if you prefer). I'll review your build before Session 1 to make sure it works for Barovia. Character creation happens before Session 1 β€” we don't burn table time on it.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Before Session 1: 1. Join the campaign Discord (link sent after booking) β€” this is where session reminders, character handouts, and between-session chat live. 2. Create your Foundry VTT account at foundryvtt.com β€” it's free, takes 2 minutes. No prior Foundry experience needed; I'll get you set up before Session 1. 3. Have your character ready (pre-gen or your own build β€” we'll sort this in the pre-session chat). 4. Test your mic. A Camera is optional, but mic is required. 5. Read the Session 0 welcome pack I send 48 hours before Session 1 β€” it covers safety tools, table expectations, and the opening situation. That's it. Show up ready to play.

What Jase brings to the table

At this table, you'll get: πŸ¦‡ Foundry VTT premium production β€” full 2024 SRD automation, clean combat workflows, dynamic lighting, animated effects. πŸ¦‡ Live ambient soundscapes via Syrinscape β€” every room, every encounter, audio that matches the moment. The chapel sounds different from the crypt. πŸ¦‡ Custom NPC portraits β€” every named character in Barovia gets a Midjourney-rendered portrait locked to a consistent painterly style. You'll remember faces. πŸ¦‡ Distinctly voiced NPCs β€” Strahd doesn't sound like Ireena. Madam Eva doesn't sound like the Burgomaster. πŸ¦‡ Combat that respects your sheet β€” fair, lethal, tactical positioning matters. I run RAW with Rule of Cool for the moments that earn it. πŸ¦‡ Story-first pacing β€” we don't get bogged down in rules lookups during dramatic moments. We keep the momentum and sort the math afterwards. πŸ¦‡ Between-session support β€” active Discord for lore questions, character development, and bonus roleplay. πŸ¦‡ 45 years of DMing experience behind every session. I show up prepared, on time, ready.

Homebrew rules

A few small rules of the road that smooth out 5e at my table: 🎲 Standard Array or Point Buy for ability scores. No rolled stats β€” keeps the table balanced. ⚑ Potions as a bonus action. Drinking a healing potion mid-combat shouldn't burn your whole turn. πŸ’€ Death saves stay private. Only you and I know how close you are to dying β€” keeps the tension real. ✨ Inspiration is generous. Good roleplay, clever ideas, character moments that make the table grin β€” I hand out Inspiration freely. πŸ›‘οΈ Critical hits deal max damage on the first die, then roll the rest. Crits feel like crits.

Safety

How Jase creates a safe table

Safety isn't an emergency tool at my table β€” it's how good tables stay good. Session 0: Before our first session, we have a 1-on-1 chat covering lines (hard nos), veils (themes we fade to black on), and any personal triggers. Whatever you tell me stays between us. X, N, O Cards: Used throughout sessions via Discord chat. X = stop and cut this content, N = let's not go further down this path, O = I'm comfortable, keep going. Use them anytime, no questions asked, no judgment. Open Door Policy: Step away from any session at any time, for any reason. Take a break, grab water, take the night off. Your wellbeing comes first. Stars and Wishes: At the end of each session, the table shares Stars (what worked) and Wishes (what could be better next time). Keeps the table improving. Aftercare: If a session hits something heavy, I check in privately afterwards. You're not alone with what came up at the table. This is gothic horror β€” there will be tension, dread, and dark themes. Safety tools mean we can lean into the genre confidently because we know we can step back.
