About me
Howdy! I'm Nines like the number, a freelance artist (comics, writing, music) who loves TTRPGs and telling stories through gameplay! I'm very much a collaborative storyteller who loves working with players to create and discover narratives together, and putting effort into atmosphere and set-dressing while hosting games in-person and online! I am greatly influenced by a lot of genres and tones across all sorts of media, from lighthearted farce, to subtle character drama, to gritty, tense action, to just plain weird and breaking the understanding of what TTRPG fiction can be. I'm very excited to hear back from you and working together to find the game that you, me, and the rest of our players want to play together!

Creating your character
NOTE: We will do group character brainstorming together at session zero! Have an idea, but be open to adjusting if needed, and have backups/Plan B's in case! Each PC is a "student". What does that mean? • Your student is young, inexperienced, and still in the early phases of determining their skills and strength as an adventurer, and as an individual, shaped by and combination of whatever background they come from and the world they're venturing more into. Generally expected to make lots of mistakes -- social, emotional, and magical -- and that's just part of the learning process! • Even if they don't know what they wanna be when they grow up, they should still have some goals. Are they goals set by their parents or loved ones? What about their own ambitions? What do they wanna study or explore? Do they wanna form bonds, or cause trouble? • In the case of this story, they are attending Calamity Academy in specific, instead of some more rich and prestigious, or more mundane school. There's something special about them... for better and for worse. Some story prompts for your student! • What's their name? Do they have a nickname or unique title? • Where do they come from? Who is their family, and what background do they come from?' • What made them worthy of joining an adventuring academy? Do they show potential? A unique talent? Or were they coerced into it? • How do they present themselves? School uniform? Casual clothes? Adventuring gear? Something less expected? Open to many acceptable answers! • What is something your PC WANTS? (life goals, personal desires, or other defining pursuits to yearn for?) • Tell me of an Experience they may have right off the bat! Something unique they're skilled at and/or have experience with! Prompts for mechanics! (will be settled on together at session zero!) • What is their (sub)class? (starting at level 1, but expected to scale up fairly quickly!) • If you want to run homebrew content (species, classes, etc.), let me know in advance before session zero to go over/approve! • What subsystems, variant rules, homebrew, and other non-core mechanics would you like to explore in this game?
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Things I expect from new players (and why!): • Discord account (main platform for sessions, communication, and other fun correspondence on the server!) • Roll20 account (the preferred VTT for battle maps if need be, though we probably won't require them unless something is really complex) • Character sheet (I'm not picky about where or how you make it, but I prefer you be able to export it and/or make it sharable) • Microphone (so we can hear your voice! Doesn't have to be super high quality, just something to make communication and the game happen swiftly and effectively!) • Webcam (being able to see face-to-face while playing makes the social aspects all the easier and more fun! Your privacy is 100% respected and guaranteed; it will not be recorded or shared outside of game time without your explicit individual consent)
What Nines brings to the table
• Rich, collaborative storytelling environment for players to contribute to their stories to a shared world! • Aesthetic presentation! Atmospheric soundtracks and original artwork made exclusively for the campaign! (will also draw PCs!) • Exciting narrative challenges tailor-made for player-driven narratives! • Inventive combat encounters in exciting and unique scenarios! • Opportunities for homebrew! Excited to see what players will bring beyond the "traditional" Daggerheart game! • Regular correspondence for feedback and deciding on the direction for the game and the table together!
Homebrew rules
NOTE: I prefer to allow the players to decide on house rules! I go with the assumption that folks wanna play "pure" Daggerheart by default, but we present options and decide them collectively during session zero, and we can further develop rules should we decide to introduce them! I also don't like strictly banning material, but we may discuss nerfs if necessary before play, to come to a gentleman's agreement over balance.

Safety
How Nines creates a safe table
• Players will be asked to fill out a lines/veils survey to determine subject matter and whatever may be uncomfortable. Will be discussed collectively at session zero and established per table code of conduct. • Discord will have private messages and server will have private player-to-GM channels for X signs and any communications of discomfort -- will resolve the game swiftly and will discuss any further adjustments required for the game regarding any triggers.
