About the adventure

Heed the call of fate and journey into the haunted depths of Gauntlight Ruins. Your journey through the Abomination Vaults adventure path will have you delving into a single massive dungeon with the colorful town of Otari nearby to act as a home base, should you wish it. Over the course of this level 1 to 10 adventure you will encounter ancient grudges, occult horrors, and bizarre unknowable powers in your foe's hands as well as your own. Whether you're a Pathfinder 2e veteran or only just taking your first steps into this wonderful system, you'll find yourself welcome at this table. The pacing of this adventure path can be easily adjusted to the party's playstyle, whether you want to make good use of the downtime systems or challenge yourself to finish the adventure in a matter of in game weeks.

About me

Welcome, lovely travelers! My name is Storyteller Rhys, and if you're looking for your next Storyteller or Game Master, then I'm your man. As a Game Master with two decades of experience under my belt, I pride myself in making sure the character you play at my table couldn't be played anywhere else. Whether that means readjusting an existing option, pilfering power from other classes, or creating custom abilities with roots in your character's backstory, I want to help you make sure your characters are as unique as you are. I love balancing and interweaving both Narrative and Combat whenever possible, and seek to provide both interesting role-playing opportunities and combat you can sink your teeth into. But first and foremost I seek to provide a fun, welcoming, and inclusive roleplaying experience for the diverse and wonderful players seeking a game master. Lets weave an unforgettable story together!

Character creation

Creating your character

I expect the greater bulk of character creation to come during and after our free session zero, as the fortune telling abilities of the woman reaching out to your characters provides ample in universe reason for your characters to work well with each other mechanically, even if they don't have any existing relationships with one another. However, I would appreciate players coming to session zero with 2 to 3 loose character ideas in order to make that process smoother. In addition, we will be playing with the Free Archetype variant rule. If an Archetype is integral to how you envision your character, such as werecreature or ghoul, we can work out a way to reflect that on your level 1 character. There won't be any hard rarity limitations on ancestry, background, or class during character creation, though there are some options that may cause some difficulties for you further in the campaign. These options still aren't off limits, but you will be forewarned.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

You will need a Discord account, a Roll20 account, and a mic. Headphones are preferred, as this will cut down on the potential for echoing in the call. Otherwise, you can come as you are. No foreknowledge will be needed to enjoy this adventure!

What Rhys brings to the table

With a Roll20 Pro account and Pathfinder's Player Core 1, 2, and GM Core, as well as a growing collection of other PF2e books, shared to my players, you will have the option to go on self guided learning journeys, as well as the ability to drag and drop many feats, spells, and items you acquire directly into your character sheet. While we will be using Discord for our voice chat, There will be also be curated music running in Roll20 to help enhance the vibes of the adventure and immerse my players into the world. Combat at my table will be tuned to reward some strategy and teamwork, but isn't intended to require optimal strategies and still has plenty of room for off the wall ideas and character driven decisions. Character deaths won't be impossible at my table, but they will be unlikely except for in very dramatic moments or after very silly ideas. I try not to deviate too far from the rules, in order to insure my players can have firm ground to stand on when coming up with out of the box plans, but the occasional rule of cool moment or personalized modification to a system can truly brings games to life, so my table will be no stranger to the Rule of Cool. I also have no qualms about writing modified or fully custom content for my players, to help empower interesting character concepts.

Homebrew rules

Hero Points that result in a reroll of less than 10 on dice instead roll a 10. Due to the tight confines of this adventure, I will be waiving the light cover granted by creatures when attempting to shoot through their space, as this would basically function as a flat penalty to all ranged attack based character. Character creation has no rarity or mixed ancestry limitations (more than happy to try and make a half leshy/half android work, if you've got a fun enough pitch), though there are some options that may make some aspects of the adventure more difficult.

How Rhys creates a safe table

Acquire and fill out the Monte Cook RPG Consent Checklist from the site below or a pinned comment in the group's discord, then send it to me via discord. (The copy of the Consent Checklist I provide in the discord has additional entries on it to tailor it to this adventure, but if you're uncomfortable downloading a file from me right off the bat, the Monte Cook link is provided below. Its a link to an online store, but the pdf is free.) https://www.montecookgames.com/store/product/consent-in-gaming/ Once I have received everyone's answer, i'll create an anonymous master list which will be posted and pinned in a discord channel specific to our group. Stars and wishes will also be managed through that discord server. In addition, players are welcome to message me directly on discord with any questions, comments, or concerns that they don't wish to be public.
